My Thoughts on the February 21st Episode of AAA on FOX:
My Thoughts: Outside of the AAA Mega Title contract signing segment, this was a terrible show from a wrestling standpoint. This is supposed to be a wrestling program, yet we barely got any actual in-ring action throughout the night. Most of the time was spent on filler segments and talking, which really hurt the overall pace and excitement of the episode. The AAA Mega Title contract signing was the only real highlight, and even that couldn’t fully save the show. It did a decent job building anticipation for the upcoming title match, but everything else around it felt flat, disjointed, or unimportant. There was very little sense of urgency or energy, and the lack of meaningful matches made the show feel like a missed opportunity. On the positive side, next week’s card looks very solid on paper. There are several intriguing matchups advertised that, if given enough time and proper focus, could deliver some great wrestling. Because of that, I’m cautiously optimistic and hoping for a strong bounce-back week for AAA. They clearly have the talent and the stories to put on a much better show than this; they just need to let the wrestlers wrestle and give fans what they tuned in for.
The February 21st Episode of AAA on FOX — The Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. vs. Belcegor in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: N/A — El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. gets a quick victory over Belcegor as now El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. has a lot on his plate next week he’s involved with the Rey de Reyes qualifying match mixed in with him dealing with Santos Escobar so he has a lot going on but needs to focus as he is building very good momentum as the AAA Latin American Champion.
The 2nd Match: Laredo Kidd (c) vs. TJ Perkins in a AAA World Cruiserweight Title Match | The Match Rating: ** — It could've been a lot better if it was given amiable of time. But it didn't become a major issue within AAA. A lot of the matches are like 2009 SmackDown, lasting around 2-3 minutes, with the Main Event getting the most time. I wish all the matches were given more time. Laredo Kidd and TJ Perkins could've given a solid match, but it seems they'll be running it back in the future. TJ Perkins had his hand on the bottom rope, but the referee didn't see it, which made TJ Perkins irate as he lost due to controversy. But afterwards, we saw TJ Perkins attack Laredo Kid as he was frustrated. I guess we can see them having a rematch at AAA Rey de Reyes, but we'll see because they still need to fill out the match card for that show; maybe this match can be added.
The Main Event Match: Abismo Negro Jr. vs. El Fiscal in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: N/A — This match didn’t even go over two minutes; it ended in a DQ Finish. Now this is where I find this an issue. It’s the Main Event Match, it’s the final match of this show, and they did some 2020 SmackDown writing having this match end quickly, to even make it worse, it didn’t really get any heat. Now I do expect this match to be run back at AAA Rey de Reyes, but c’mon, Undertaker, book this show better. Why are the matches so short?
The February 21st Episode of AAA on FOX— The Match of the Night: Laredo Kidd (c) vs. TJ Perkins in a AAA World Cruiserweight Title Match | The Match Rating: ** — It could’ve been better with more time, but it didn’t become a major AAA issue. Most matches, like 2009 SmackDown, lasted 2-3 minutes, with the Main Event getting the most. I wish all matches had more time. Laredo Kidd and TJ Perkins could’ve had a solid match, but they’ll likely rerun it later. TJ Perkins was upset after the match when he saw he was on the bottom rope, but the referee didn’t see it, leading to controversy. He then attacked Laredo Kid out of frustration. A rematch at AAA Rey de Reyes seems possible, but they need to fill the card; maybe this match will be added.
The February 21st Episode of AAA on FOX — The Episode Grade: 1.50/10 (F) — Outside of the AAA Mega Title Contract Signing, this was a terrible wrestler. This is a wrestling show, and we barely got any wrestling on this show. Next week card looks very solid, so hoping for a bounce-back week next week for AAA.
