My Official Thoughts on AEW Double Or Nothing:
My Official Thoughts: 1st AEW Event I went to in-person. I must say this was one of the best live experience shows I’ve ever been to. This was fun from the start to the finish, best 83$ I spent for tickets, and the seats were great. Have to say AEW is just an amazing promotion, they care about what the fans want, they provide great material, and this show was fun from top to bottom. Amazing Double or Nothing Event.
AEW Dynasty — My Official Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) (with Stokely) (c) vs. Adam Copeland & Christian Cage in an AEW World Tag Team Title I Quit Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — I was at this event, and man, when I tell you this match was electric, it was indeed electric. This was such an awesome match; it was just cool to see Edge & Christian in person. FTR came out with a chorus of boo's heading in their direction, but this I Quit Match for the AEW World Tag Team Titles was awesome. I enjoyed this match so much. I loved the fact that Beth Phoenix made her return, then took a nasty bump. The call-back to WrestleMania 22 spot with Edge & Mick Foley was awesome, and in the end, we saw Adam Copeland & Christian Cage become the new AEW World Tag Team Champions. What an opener, and what an amazing match to kick things off.
The 2nd Match: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita in an AEW International Title Match | The Match Rating: ***** — This match in-person was godly, this was an amazing match. Konosuke Takeshita was ready to take down the man, who, in a sense, had been trying to make Konosuke Takeshita look like a fool. This match had so many intense moments. When Kazuchika Okada kicked out of one the place exploded. The ending sequence of this match was amazing, seeing Konosuke Takeshita becoming a 2x AEW International Champion. Kyle Fletcher made his return as everyone thought he was taking Konosuke Takeshita’s side, but then he turned on Konosuke Takeshita, which effectively made Konosuke Takeshita a baby face once again. This was amazing. Kyle Fletcher vs. Konosuke Takeshita, being a future match, gets me excited. Amazing way to kick this story off for the summer.
The 3rd Match: Athena vs. Mina Shirakawa in a Owen Hart Foundation Women’s Tournament Quarter-Final Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — This match was decent, I really liked seeing Athena wrestle in-person. I knew she was going to get this win over Mina Shirakawa. It was quite obvious if you think about it, not being mean, but come on, it's Athena, she's one of the best in the business today, but this match was very decent, and I liked the finish as Athena got the win, and will be advancing to the next round. Athena is one of my picks making the finals of the Women's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, and we can see her challenging for the AEW Women's World Title in the near future if she manages to win this tournament.
The 4th Match: Jon Moxley (c) vs. Kyle O’Reilly in an AEW Continental Title No Time Limit Match | The Match Rating: *** — This was my least favorite match from the event. Jon Moxley’s reign as the AEW Continental Champion is boring; the matches he puts on nowadays are very boring. This was the same formula he used with Konosuke Takeshita with the No Time Limit Stipulation. Now we knew Kyle O'Reilly wasn't going to win, but he did a good job in this match. I can't say the same for Jon Moxley. There were moments in this match where he was doing a little two-match; the match went on longer than I expected. But in the end, as usual, Jon Moxley was on top as he defeated Kyle O'Reilly, then showed respect after the match. End this reign, and have someone tough and exciting win this title from Jon Moxley, save this title.
The 5th Match: Will Ospreay vs. Samoa Joe in a Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament Quarter-Final Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — Will Ospreay started this match off with an insane springboard cutter, which had me out of my seat in the Louis Armstrong Arena. I was excited about this match because it's Samoa Joe and Will Ospreay. Samoa Joe had some awesome moments in this match. It amazes me how he has been wrestling for two decades in AEW, ROH, TNA & WWE, and was amazing in all of those promotions. He simply is one of one. At the end of this match, I knew Will Ospreay was going to get the win, as I had it being Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay as the Finals for the Men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament Final. But what an amazing match, this was simply one of the best matches from the night, very much glad I got to see this in person.
The 6th Match: Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana) vs. Bandido in a Owen Hart Foundation Men's Tournament Quarter-Final Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — Whose House? This was one of the matches I was most excited for when attending Double or Nothing, because Bandido is easily my favorite wrestler in AEW today, so it was so fitting to see him live in person. Swerve Strickland is finally wrestling again, which is crazy, given how long we haven't seen him wrestle. But this match was awesome. As I said, Swerve Strickland vs. Will Ospreay will be the Finals of the Owen Hart Tournament. We’re going to see that. But let me say this, the ending to this match was so insane, I got out of my seat in shock because I couldn't believe how the match finished. Just an amazing ending to a great match. Now, Swerve Strickland advances, and now we await who he faces in the next round of the Men's Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.
The 7th Match: Thekla (c) vs. Hikaru Shida vs. Jamie Hayter vs. Kris Statlander in an AEW Women’s World Title Four-Way Match | The Match Rating: **** — This was super fun, I really enjoyed this Four-Way AEW Women's World Title Match as I really thought going into this match, we were going to get a new champion but man a lot of drama ensued in this match we saw Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander go at it, who mind you are a Tag Team which made it insane because does this mean it's over they both screwed each-other. Jamie Hater was my pick to win this match, as it has been long overdue for her to regain the AEW Women's World Title, but sadly, that didn't happen as Thekla the Toxic Spider retained her AEW Women's World Title in a very fun, fast-paced Four-Way Match.
The 8th Match: Jack Perry, Jericho, The Elite (Kenny Omega, Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson) & The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) vs. Don Callis Family (Andrade El Idolo & Mark Davis), The Demand (Bishop Kaun, Ricochet & Toa Liona) & The Dogs (Clark Connors & David Finlay) in a Stadium Stampede Match | The Match Rating: ****.75 — Seeing this in person, then seeing The Dogs & The Young Bucks fighting in my section was such an awesome memory I'll never forget. This was comedic, fun, and had everything for everyone in this match, and if you didn't like this, then I don't know if you like wrestling for real. This was such an awesome match, Stadium Stampede, you can't mess up because it's like a Free for All, you roam wherever, and cause chaos. We saw Tommy Invincle, Luther & Lio Rush all make appearances in this match, but the match ended with Chris Jericho getting the pin for the win. A very fun match that had a lot of memorable moments for me.
The Main Event: Darby Allin (c) vs. MJF in an AEW World Title vs. Hair Match | The Match Rating: ***** — Amazing, Title Defense, and what an end to the amazing reign of Darby Allin, who had a Top Three Title of all-time in the AEW Company History. I had Darby Allin winning because knowing how MJF is a Movie Star, maybe he needed to chop his hair off for a movie role, that was my thinking, but how wrong was I. I also know Darby Allin is getting married in June, which is something I saw being whispered around. But nevertheless, we saw an amazing Main Event, Darby Allin put his body on the line in many spots. I like the story of Darby Allin; many title defenses took a toll on his body, which made MJF capitalize to hit the crazy off the top rope Tombstone Piledriver to win his 3rd AEW World Title. But that wasn't all we saw. Kevin Knight, the AEW TNT Champion, turned heel as he jumped onto Darby Allin as he was strapped onto the stretcher. So a lot of craziness is entering this week, AEW Dynamite in Philadelphia.
AEW Double Or Nothing — My Match of the Night: Kazuchika Okada (c) vs. Konosuke Takeshita in an AEW International Title Match | The Match Rating: ***** — This match was incredible live, packed with intense moments. The crowd went wild when Kazuchika Okada kicked out at one, and the finishing sequence crowned Konosuke Takeshita as a 2x AEW International Champion. Kyle Fletcher’s surprise return and heel turn on Takeshita flipped Takeshita back into a babyface and set up an exciting future match between them. A fantastic way to kick off this summer storyline.
AEW Double Or Nothing — My Official Event Grade: 10/10 (A+) — AEW’s Double or Nothing was one of the best live shows I’ve attended. It was fun from start to finish, worth every dollar, with great seats. AEW truly cares about fans, offers great content, and this show was fantastic overall.
