My Thoughts on the December 17th Episode of AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash:
My Thoughts: A very strong in-ring Dynamite with multiple 4★+ matches, but dragged down by a weak main event Battle Royale. The Continental Classic and trios match carried the show.
The December 17th Episode of AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash — The Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Jon Moxley [6] vs. Roderick Strong [0] in a Continental Blue League Match | The Match Rating: **** — Hard-hitting, physical tournament opener. Moxley feels like a dominant, reliable tournament ace, while Strong comes off as dangerous but unlucky. Great way to set the tone for the night.
The 2nd Match: The Elite (Matthew Jackson, Kenny Omega & Nicolas Jackson) vs. The Don Callis Family (Hechinero, Kazuchika Okada & Konosuke Takeshita) in a $1,000,000 [750.000] Winner Takes All Trios Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — Fast-paced, big-time trios match with star power and high-end sequences. Strong storytelling between The Elite and the Callis Family, lots of double-/triple-team offense, and one of the standout matches of the show.
The 3rd Match: Athena, Mercedes Mone & The MegaProblems (Marnia Shafir & Megan Bayne) vs. Babes of Wrath (Harley Cameron & Willow Nightingale) & Timeless Love Bombs (Mina Shirakawa & Toni Storm) in an Eight-Woman Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — Fun, character-driven eight-woman tag. Good action and a chance to spotlight multiple women at once, especially Toni Storm’s “Timeless” act and Athena’s presence, but not on the same level as the top matches.
The 4th Match: PAC [6] vs. Kyle Fletcher [6] in a Continental Gold League Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — The in-ring highlight of the show. An intense, high-stakes tournament match between two guys tied on points. Stiff strikes, big athletic spots, and a strong closing stretch that made it feel like a mini main event.
The Main Event Match: Bandido vs. Ricochet vs. Ace Austin vs. Anthony Bowens vs. Bishop Kaun vs. Brody King vs. Josh Alexander vs. Luchasaurus vs. Mark Davis vs. Max Caster vs. Shelton Benjamin vs. Toa Liona in a Dynamite Diamond Ring Battle Royale Match | The Match Rating: ** — Despite a stacked lineup (Bandido, Ricochet, Josh Alexander, Brody King, Shelton Benjamin, etc.), the match underdelivered. The structure and eliminations didn’t live up to the talent involved, making for a flat main event and a disappointing finish to an otherwise strong wrestling show.
The December 17th Episode of AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash — The Match of the Night: PAC [6] vs. Kyle Fletcher [6] in a Continental Gold League Match | The Match Rating: ****.50
The December 17th Edition of AEW Dynamite: Holiday Bash — The Episode Grade: 7.75/10 (B) — A very good episode for match quality, but the main event Battle Royale kept it from feeling like a complete home-run show.
