My Thoughts on the January 28th Episode of AEW Dynamite:
My Thoughts: A very great episode of AEW Dynamite. We saw some excellent matches throughout the night, capped off by the highly anticipated AEW debut of Tommaso Ciampa, officially arriving as the “Psycho Killer.” Ciampa immediately made his presence felt by setting his sights on the AEW TNT Championship, which I’m really happy about because it gives that title a fresh, dangerous challenger with a strong character and in-ring style. His debut felt important, and the presentation made it clear that he’s going to be a major player. We also saw Andrade finally get his moment, which felt long overdue. The build to his opportunity has been slow but steady, and tonight it paid off as he secured his shot and is now set to face Kenny Omega next week in Las Vegas on AEW Dynamite. The prospect of Andrade vs. Omega feels like a big-time match, the kind of main event you can center an entire show around. Both men are known for their high work rate and storytelling in the ring, so expectations are understandably very high. Overall, this was probably one of AEW’s more consistent nights of high-quality in-ring action. Nearly every match delivered something memorable, whether it was strong wrestling, character development, or storyline progression. The pacing of the show felt tight, with very little downtime, and the crowd stayed hot from start to finish. Looking ahead to next week, it really seems like AEW plans to keep this momentum going. With Omega vs. Andrade in Las Vegas and Ciampa already gunning for the TNT Title, the card is shaping up to be stacked. If they follow through on the storylines they advanced tonight, next week’s Dynamite could be even better, continuing this strong run of shows and reinforcing AEW’s reputation for delivering top-tier wrestling on a weekly basis.
The January 28th Episode of AEW Dynamite — The Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Kenny Omega vs. Rocky Romero in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: N/A — The man of the hour, Kenny Omega, made quick work of Don Callis Family’s own Rocky Romero, and hit a V-Trigger and One-Winged Angel. Kenny Omega is working really hard to get his hands on the AEW World Championship, and the after-match promo was great stuff. Kenny Omega’s pursuit of the World Title has been fun, and then we saw Hangman Page & Swerve Strickland come out to confront Kenny Omega about the AEW World Title. In which Kenny Omega told Swerve Strickland that he’s looking for a fight. But sadly, Don Callis came out to ruin this awesome segment. But this was overall a fun way to open up the show.
The 2nd Match: Jon Moxley [c] vs. Ace Austin in an AEW Continental Title Eliminator Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — This was a solid match. Ace Austin of the Bang Bang Gang had his biggest match to date in AEW. Jon Moxley, I don’t know if he’s a heel or a tweaker. But this match was a lot of fun, filled with some cool spots. Jon Moxley won, and after the match, Konosuke Takeshita confronted Jon Moxley, then after we saw Davis and Doyle dismantle Jon Moxley, as the feud between the Death Riders and Don Callis Family continued.
The 3rd Match: Mark Briscoe (c) vs. El Clon in an AEW TNT Title Match | The Match Rating: ***.75 — El Clon was awesome in this match. I thought he was stealing the show with how he was moving in the ring with Mark Briscoe, who I also thought had a very good showing in this match. Mark Briscoe managed to retain his title, but afterwards, we saw the arrival of Tommaso Ciampa in AEW as the Psycho Killer. He will challenge for the AEW TNT Title this Saturday on AEW Collision, which is going to be a very exciting match. I think Tommaso Ciampa is a better fit in AEW, as he does a lot of workrate matches, and he will thrive and be fine in AEW.
The 4th Match: Kris Statlander (c) vs. Thekla in an AEW Women’s World Title Match | The Match Rating: ***.50 — Another good match on this episode of Dynamite. Kris Statlander has been dealing with the Triangle of Madness group escially Thekla and the title was on the line tonight and this was a very solid match, and I thought Thekla is someone who can maybe hold the AEW TBS Title in the future she's very good and I didn't think much of her last year when she got signed but she proved me wrong big time and tonight she showed she can be something good in AEW when given the chance.
The 5th Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) (with Stokley) (c) vs. Davis And Doyle (Jake Doyle & Mark Davis) in an AEW World Tag Team Title Match | The Match Rating: **** — This was a very fun match I felt like the wrong people won it would've been nice if Jake Doyle and Mark Davis won the AEW World Tag Team Belts tonight but it didn't happen. FTR, in my eyes, are one of the best teams in the world. But this match, it wouldn't have hurt them if they lost the titles whatsoever. But this was fun, and well-done. I feel like FTR is only holding the belts until they lose them to Adam Copeland and Christian Cage once they return to AEW TV.
The Main Event Match: Andrade El Ídolo vs. Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana) in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ****.75 — Such an amazing match, it seems like a company is going to position Amndrade like he should be positioned in the Main Event, something some companies couldn't properly do. Swerve Strickland, I had in mind he was going to win this match, but it didn't happen because of dirty tactics by Andrade, as he found a way to get the win and now will face Kenny Omega next week in an AEW World Championship Contenders Series Match. I'm very happy for Andrade; he deserves this, and I really hope this keeps up. Now, for Swerve Strickland, I see him coming back at Andrade, but it’s only a matter of time before we see him properly reinserted back in the AEW World Title picture.
The January 28th Episode of AEW Dynamite — The Match of the Night: Andrade El Ídolo vs. Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana) in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ****.75
The January 28th Edition of AEW Dynamite — The Episode Grade: 8.50/10 (A-) — A very great episode of AEW Dynamite. We saw some great matches, and the AEW Debut of Tommaso Ciampa as the Psycho Killer is in AEW, coming after the AEW TNT Title, which I’m happy about, and we saw Andrade get his moment, as now he faces Kenny Omega next week in Las Vegas on AEW Dynamite. This was probably one of AEW’s more consistent nights of great in-ring action, and next week it seems like they’re going to keep it up.
