My Official Thoughts on the May 27th Episode of AEW Dynamite:

My Official Thoughts: From an in-ring standpoint, this episode didn’t reach the level I was hoping for and that’s especially noticeable because AEW’s usual in-ring standard is fantastic. So on that front, this show fell short. That said, the opening segment, where Kevin Knight attacked Mike Bailey to solidify his heel turn, was excellent work from AEW. It firmly establishes one of their top young talents as a villainous heel, giving him the edge he needs if he wants to rise to the next level. Even so, the Dynamite card for June 3rd has me genuinely excited. There are two major title matches on tap, along with some strong Owen Hart Tournament bouts, and that lineup really has me looking forward to the show.

The May 27th Episode of AEW Dynamite — My Official Match Ratings:

The Opening Match: Jericho vs. Ricochet in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: *** — This was okay. Is it my cup of tea to watch Jericho in 2026? No, but for the purpose of ending this feud, he did get the win over Ricochet to end this feud, and now he has another person who's eyeing him, as Tommaso Ciampa attacked Jericho after the match and gave him a beatdown. Now this feud is interesting. I would like Tommaso Ciampa to come out on top in this feud because Jericho is old, and what does he gain from winning a feud against Tommaso Ciampa? But now that Tommaso Ciampa is in the Jericho Vortex, we can see what comes out of this in the end for Tommaso Ciampa, unless this feud ruins his stock.

The 2nd Match: Rush vs. Brian Cage vs. Lio Rush vs. Orange Cassidy in a Superstation Showcase Four-Way Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — It's pretty cool to see Rush get this push in 2026, as next week he'll be facing MJF for the AEW World Title. I think this is the best he has been booked since, if I can remember, 2022? From 2023 to 2025, he didn't do any notable things off the top of my head. I do remember the Bryan Danielson Match, but that's really it. Brian Cage, Lio Rush, and Orange Cassidy were decent in this match but couldn't manage to get the win. Now, Rush, with a head full of steam, will have the biggest match of his AEW Career as he faces MJF in Richmond, Virginia, next week for the AEW World Title.

The 3rd Match: Brody King vs. Claudio Castagnoli in an Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarter-Final Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — I kinda knew Brody King was going to manage to get the win, as the next round he would face Swerve Strickland, someone he had notable history with, but this match against Death Rider's member Claudio Castaganoli was very solid, hard-hitting. I was happy that Brody King got the win, as in the next round he faces Swerve Strickland, a rematch of their match from AEW Revolution. I do still have Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay as my Men's Owen Hart Final, so I'm excited to see how this pans out.

The 4th Match: TayJay (Anna Jay & Tay Melo) vs. Allie Katch & Ava Everett in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: N/A — This match was a squash win for the returning Women’s Tag Team of TayJay, who managed to win in 70 seconds. Now this being the only match in the two-hour Dynamite slot sucks, because the Women’s Roster deserves better booking, and now, because of this win, TayJay faces the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Champions in a Five-Minute Challenge Match this Saturday on AEW Collision.

The Main Event Match: Mark Davis vs. Jack Perry in an Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarter-Final Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — Best match from this 2-Hour Dynamite. Mark Davis, the AEW National Champion, mind you, almost got crushed by Jack Perry at AEW Double or Nothing in the Stadium Stampede Match as he dodged a Bus going full speed trying to squash him like a bug. But this was a very enjoyable match. I was conflicted on who was going to come out on top, but because of the history that Mark Davis and Will Ospreay have, I kinda figured out after the match that's the direction they want because of the history between the two, which I respect. The former friends and members of the United Empire are going to face off in a Semi-Finals Match next week on the June 3rd Episode of AEW Dynamite.

The May 27th Episode of AEW Dynamite — My Match of the Night: Mark Davis vs. Jack Perry in an Owen Hart Foundation Men’s Tournament Quarter-Final Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — Best match from this 2-hour Dynamite: Mark Davis, AEW National Champion, almost got crushed by Jack Perry at AEW Double or Nothing in the Stadium Stampede Match, dodging a bus trying to squash him. It was very enjoyable. I was conflicted about the winner, but given Davis and Will Ospreay’s history, I guessed their match’s direction, which I respect. Former friends and members of the United Empire will face off in a Semi-Finals Match next week on June 3rd’s AEW Dynamite.

The May 27th Episode of AEW Dynamite — My Official Episode Grade: 6.50/10 (C+) — In terms of in-ring, it was not on the level I wanted it to be, and mind you, AEW in-ring level is like amazing. So this episode was down in that aspect, but I must say that the opening segment of Kevin Knight attacking Mike Bailey, cementing his heel turn, was great stuff by AEW, as now you have one of your top young talents as a villainous heel with an edge that he needed if he wants to get to the next level. But seeing the Dynamite Card for June 3rd got me excited as we have two major title matches, and some solid Owen Hart Tournament Matches, which have me excited.
