My Official Thoughts on the July 1st Episode of AEW Dynamite:

My Official Thoughts: AEW Dynamite still had a great episode even though the in-ring material wasn't up to the standards I have for AEW, but the segments and in-ring promos were excellent. As next week we have four big matches for AEW Beach Break, and the Road to AEW Redemption PPV has started it a lot of things from this episode you can take and be happy with, even on an off night for in-ring material. AEW still finds a way to deliver some solid television as they did right here.

My Official Match Ratings for the July 1st AEW Dynamite Episode:

The Opening Match: MJF (c) vs. Mark Briscoe in an AEW World Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — A very good match, I originally thought this match would take place at AEW Redemption but it didn't which is good, because this did give AEW Dynamite a must-see match, and MJF contiunes to prove himself why he's the best wrestler in the world today, as this match was very hard-hitting, and got to the climax, I didn't think Mark Briscoe was going to win, but he had a great performance as MJF reatined we saw Kenny Omega afterwards and next week at AEW Beach Break if Kenny Omega loses he will never challenge for the AEW World Title again, a stipulation that caught Cody Rhodes & Adam Page, so next week I'm really hoping Kenny Omega wins. To get his 2nd AEW World Title reign.

The 2nd Match: Kevin Knight (c) vs. Lio Rush in an AEW TNT Title Match | The Match Rating: **.75 — A very good spot for Lio Rush; he deserved this match, as he’s been doing great with his character work, being featured in comedy spots, and really getting over. I did think this match didn't hit the ceiling of where I thought this match could be because these two can have a spectatular match, but this match wasn't that long, and Kevin Knight did in fact retained his AEW TNT Title in one of his more weaker title defenses in my opinion but I'm happy that Lio Rush is now in a good spot in AEW, and him having this title match kinda showed that.

The 3rd Match: Death Rider (Jon Moxley & Will Ospreay) vs. The Swirl (Blake Christian & Lee Johnson) in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: *** — I wasn’t really pleased with this match. It felt like it was mainly put together to continue showing Jon Moxley and Will Ospreay getting closer, especially after Ospreay was made an official member of the Death Riders. The match itself was okay, but nothing worth writing home about. The Swirl had some solid offense and got a chance to shine, but in the end, they suffered defeat at the hands of the Death Riders. Moxley and Ospreay picked up the win and came out looking stronger together in the process.

The Main Event Match: Hikaru Shida vs. Harley Cameron vs. Kris Statlander vs. Maika vs. Persephone vs. Queen Aminata in an AEW TBS Title Survival of the Fittest Six-Way Elimination Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — This could've been an amazing match because, on paper, with the wrestlers involved, this was made for a great main event. To conclude this match, by having a new AEW TBS Champion in which we did have as Hikaru Shida defeated Kris Statlander, eliminating her last to secure the win and the title. But then again, this match wasn't that great. I'm happy with the winner, of course. By having Hikaru Shida as the AEW TBS Champion, I expect great matches to come, but this match was hyped up, and the qualifying matches to get into this match were fine, but this match didn't deliver for me whatsoever.

My Official Match of the Night for the July 1st Episode of AEW Dynamite: MJF (c) vs. Mark Briscoe in an AEW World Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — A very good match that gave AEW Dynamite a must-see opener. MJF continued proving why he’s one of the best wrestlers in the world today, while Mark Briscoe delivered a great performance despite coming up short. After MJF retained, Kenny Omega appeared, setting up next week’s AEW World Title match at AEW Beach Break, where Omega can never challenge for the title again if he loses. I’m really hoping Omega wins and begins his second AEW World Title reign.

My July 1st Official Episode Grade for AEW Dynamite: 8/10 (B+) — AEW Dynamite delivered a great episode despite the in-ring action not meeting my usual AEW standards. The segments and promos were excellent, and with four big matches set for AEW Beach Break next week, the Road to AEW Redemption PPV feels officially underway. Even on an off night in the ring, AEW still found a way to deliver solid television.
