A major story has broken, as Fightful reports that it is now official: Powerhouse Hobbs has signed with WWE. For the past month, it has been widely known that WWE had a strong interest in Hobbs. That interest was hardly surprising, given his resume as a former AEW TNT Champion and AEW World Trios Champion as part of the faction The Opps.

This move doesn’t come as a shock to many fans. Hobbs had been with AEW for roughly six years and, despite his size, presence, and clear upside, he never truly broke into the AEW World Championship picture. Fans frequently voiced their frustrations on social media, arguing that AEW never fully utilized Hobbs or gave him the sustained push his talent warranted. Many felt he was stuck in a holding pattern as an upper mid-card enforcer rather than being elevated as a top singles star.

Now, with a fresh start in WWE, Powerhouse Hobbs has the opportunity to redefine his career and prove his worth on one of the biggest stages in professional wrestling. At 34 years old, he is entering what many consider a wrestler’s prime. Physically imposing, with an intense, believable style, Hobbs brings with him the tools that WWE often looks for in a top-tier star.

Will Hobbs was first introduced to a wider audience during his run with Team Taz in AEW. Under that banner, he began to show noticeable improvement in the ring and on the microphone, earning praise from fans and analysts alike. Over time, he found himself in several high-profile matches, including occasional world title opportunities, but he was never positioned as the centerpiece of the promotion. Those close calls only reinforced the perception that he was capable of more than what he was being given.

The belief in Hobbs’s potential is not limited to fans. Many observers see his ceiling as that of a future world champion, acknowledging that he has the physical attributes, presence, and in-ring style to credibly fill that role. In WWE, he will have the chance to work within a system that has historically excelled at presenting larger-than-life powerhouses as main-event talents. The question now becomes how WWE chooses to introduce and build him.

There are several intriguing possibilities for Hobbs’s WWE debut. He could be brought in as a dominant singles heel, tearing through the mid-card on his way to the main event, or he might be aligned with an established faction to immediately position him as a threat. WWE’s production and storytelling resources could highlight his backstory, his frustrations in AEW, and his hunger to prove that he belongs at the top of the card. A well-crafted debut program, perhaps against a popular babyface or a respected veteran, could quickly establish him as a serious player.

Of course, the big question remains: will the grass truly be greener for Powerhouse Hobbs in WWE? While a change of scenery often revitalizes a wrestler’s career, there is always the risk that he could find himself in a similar role, used as a physically imposing presence but never quite given the full spotlight. WWE’s roster is stacked with talent, and breaking through to the main-event level is never guaranteed.

Still, the timing and circumstances of this move suggest that both Hobbs and WWE see this as more than just a depth signing. With the right creative direction, consistent booking, and opportunities on premium live events, Hobbs could finally reach the level many have long believed he is capable of. If WWE commits to presenting him as a true powerhouse in every sense of the word, this signing could end up being one of the most impactful moves of his career.

As his WWE debut looms, all eyes will be on how he is introduced and how quickly he climbs the ranks. Will Powerhouse Hobbs finally break through and capture the world championship gold that eluded him in AEW? Or will he once again find himself slotted as the muscle of a group, hovering just below the main-event scene? The next chapter of his career is about to begin, and for Powerhouse Hobbs, this may be his best and perhaps last big chance to prove that he belongs at the very top of the wrestling world.
