We all know that WWE is in the midst of pushing young talent to introduce the future of the business on the main roster. But there’s one wrestler who has been captivating and electric whenever he steps into the squared circle. He lights up the arena every time he walks out to the crowd. For my Spotlight of the Week, we’re going to talk about Je’Von Evans, whose real name is Malachi Jeffers.

He made his name on the independent wrestling scene, starting his career at the age of 14, training at Fire Star Pro Wrestling (FSPW) Academy. He made his official debut on January 26, 2018, in a tag team match. From there, he climbed the ranks, wrestling for multiple promotions such as American Lucha Wrestling, Premier Wrestling Federation, and Xtreme World Wrestling. He got one of his first major breaks in 2022 when he wrestled a match for DEADLOCK Pro-Wrestling (DPW). This is where Jay Malachi truly made his name on the independent scene. Later in 2022, he wrestled on AEW Dark against Fuego Del Sol. Although he suffered a loss, at just 18 years old, he was competing in the second-biggest promotion in the world. He returned to wrestle two more matches on AEW Dark in 2023. In 2023, he became the DPW World Champion and went on to have memorable matches against Lucky Ali (known as Saquon Shugars in WWE), Alec Price, and Jordan Oliver, who is currently in AEW. Soon after, in November 2023, he signed with WWE.

Coming onto the WWE scene in February 2024, he debuted against Brooks Jensen on NXT Level Up, immediately wowing everyone with his high-flying moveset, crazy athleticism, and agility inside the ring. He quickly rose through the ranks. In April 2024, he faced Ilja Dragunov, who at the time was the face of NXT and the reigning NXT Champion. Although he suffered defeat, that match showed how highly WWE viewed him. Getting a match against the NXT Champion said a lot about the ceiling he has and how much confidence management had in Je’Von Evans. Evans continued to rise. In June 2024, he won a 25-Man No. 1 Contender’s Battle Royal, earning a shot at the NXT Championship at Heatwave. While it did not end up being a one-on-one match, he competed in the main event against Trick Williams (the NXT Champion at the time), Ethan Page, who ultimately won the match, and Shawn Spears. Je’Von Evans officially put himself on the map that night. He became one of the biggest talking points coming out of the event. Fans saw just how electric and captivating he truly was. The confidence and charisma he showed at such a young age allowed him to steal the show and propel himself even further. As NXT transitioned from the USA Network to the CW Network, Evans had another major opportunity: a match against 14-time World Champion Randy Orton. Although he suffered a loss, he earned respect from “The Viper.” This was when people truly started to notice what he could become in the wrestling world.

In less than a year after signing with WWE, he had already earned a world title opportunity, shared the ring with Randy Orton, and positioned himself as one of the faces of the next generation. Many people said he was undersized or not strong enough, but he continues to persevere and prove the doubters wrong with his undeniable talent. Je’Von Evans continued his momentum into 2025, elevating himself further through feuds with Ethan Page, Oba Femi, Ricky Saints, and Trick Williams. He built his stock even higher and made history by main-eventing NXT’s biggest show of the year, Stand & Deliver, alongside Oba Femi and Trick Williams for the NXT Championship. This moment was historic, as three Black wrestlers closed out NXT’s biggest premium live event and delivered one of the best matches in WWE in 2025.

Je'Von Evans also stepped outside of NXT, competing in AAA, TNA, and on the WWE main roster. He had an electric match against Leon Slater for the TNA X-Division Championship at Bound for Glory. He faced Sami Zayn for the WWE United States Championship. He even main-evented Madison Square Garden at just 21 years old against Gunther, the man who retired AJ Styles, Goldberg, and John Cena. He was hand-picked by John Cena to wrestle at his last-ever show. He was given the ball, and he ran with it. By the end of the year, he officially signed to the main roster on Monday Night Raw. At 21 years old, he became the youngest wrestler on the main roster. He successfully won his first main roster feud by defeating Los Americanos and was the Iron Man of the Men’s Royal Rumble, lasting over 40 minutes. He recently main-evented Monday Night Raw, pinning Intercontinental Champion Dominik Mysterio in a match that also involved Gunther. Now, at just 21 years old, he heads to Chicago, Illinois, to compete in the Men’s Elimination Chamber against Cody Rhodes, LA Knight, and Randy Orton. Many wrestlers have praised this young star, including Natalya, Roman Reigns, Seth Rollins, and Shawn Michaels.

What you can learn from Je’Von Evans is that when you grind, put in the work, and never give up on your dreams, anything is possible. In a short time in WWE, he has already accomplished so much. He has caught lightning in a bottle. I chose Je’Von Evans as my first Spotlight of the Week because I’ve followed his journey from DPW to WWE. He has a rare ability that you don’t find often. He’s only 21, yet he moves like a seasoned veteran. And he’s only going to get better. One day, I truly believe he will hold multiple championships in WWE and headline many of its biggest events. The fact that he has competed in AAA, TNA, and WWE shows how highly regarded he is across the industry.

Fans connect with him because of his authenticity. He doesn’t try to be anyone else. He brings his true self into the ring, and that’s what makes people gravitate toward him. Je’Von Evans is one of the youngest stars in the game today. Decades from now, we may look back at his career as one of the most accomplished of his generation. Despite being told he was too small or not strong enough, he continues to prove that authenticity and hard work win in the end. He is being shaped as a cornerstone for the future of WWE, and many fans believe he could become the Jeff Hardy of this generation. The sky is truly the limit for Je’Von Evans.
