Thoughts on the September 25th, Edition of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in New York:
Thoughts: This was a great episode of AEW Dynamite. Bryan Danielson & Nigel tore it down with a fantastic opener of a match. Hook defeats Roderick Strong then afterwards retired the FTW Championship which was much needed because that belt is just for Hook and with anyone else it just don't feel right whatsoever. The Bucks went back to how they use to wrestle and put on a great match with Kyle Fletcher & Will Ospreay. They retained the belts. Mariah May put quick work of Yuka which allowed Mina to return. Jon Moxley will face Bryan Danielson at WrestleDream for the AEW Championship. Overall great episode.
The September 25th, Edition of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam in New York Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Bryan Danielson vs. Nigel McGuinness in a Non - Title Match - Match Rating: ****.50 - This was my favorite match on the show. I loved every single second of this match. Nigel McGuinness looked amazing in this match and I'm glad he's back wrestling again because it been a decade since he had a singles match. I'm happy that Bryan Danielson came back he looked great in this match. He and Nigel tore the house down. What a beautiful match. There ROH Feud is one of the best feud in that promotion history I won't mind if they had more matches in the future.
2nd Match: Hook (c) defeats Roderick Strong (with Matt Taven & Mike Bennett) for the FTW Championship in a FTW Rules Match Match Rating: **.50 - Hook in my opinion has peaked as a wrestler he needs a lot of development. Now this match was okay but Hook has a lot of glaring holes that need work on like his mic skills, and in - ring ability. You can't do the same moves over and over gotta change it up. Roderick Strong did his job putting over Hook he looked good in this match. Afterwards looks like Roderick Strong turned face. But most importantly the FTW Championship has retired and was brought back to Taz now the old ECW belt is back to retirement.
3rd Match: The Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) (c) defeats Kyle Fletcher & Will Ospreay for the AEW World Tag Team Championships - Match Rating: ****.25 - Very solid tag team match. The Young Bucks looked very good in this match as they showed people why they still can put on bangers with the best of them. Will Ospreay & Kyle Fletcher were amazing in this match, the push of Kyle Fletcher been great he took that ball and been running with it and in this match he showed why he's a rising star in AEW. Yes I know he was in Aussie Open and won multiple titles but I meant in a sense of a singles superstar he has been exceeding very well. But overall great match, and The Young Bucks retained.
4th Match: Mariah May (c) defeats Yuka Sakazaki for the AEW Women's World Championship Match Rating: *.50 - Mariah May run hasn't been as I expected it to be because the matches haven't been good, and the character work hasn't been up to par in my opinion. Now with Mina returning it can return to be interesting and fun but as of right now I haven't been enjoying this title run. I'm a Mariah May fan but just hoping soon it starts to heat up.
The Main Event Match: Jon Moxley (with Marina Shafir) defeats Darby Allin in a AEW World Championship Number One Contenders Match Match Rating: ****.25 - This match was solid, the style that Jon Moxley fights now isn't my cup of tea because ever since he been with Josh Barnett he been really doing a lot of grappling, and that unhinged style of wrestling. Darby Allin loses his chance to fight for the AEW Title after giving it up. After the match Bryan Danielson try to choke out Jon Moxley with a tie with Private Party, and Komander coming too the save. Now at WrestleDream it will be Bryan Danielson (c) vs. Jon Moxley for the AEW World Heavyweight Championship in two weeks.
