My Thoughts on the July 23rd Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite:
My Thoughts: This was a very strong episode of Dynamite. I noticed that the Tag Division is beginning to regain its significance, which is exciting. Toni Storm and Athena are finally entering their feud, and next week, Adam Page will face Jon Moxley for the AEW World Title, with all others banned from ringside.
The July 23rd | Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite — Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Adam Page vs. Wheeler Yuta in a Singles Match | Match Rating: N/A | This was more of a ass-whooping and to progress a story being told of how Wheeler Yuta didn’t even get saved by the Death Riders and Adam Page point that out to him and didn’t choke him out with the chain but seemingly teached him a lesson ion how the Death Riders didn’t care for him. Are the seeds planted for the pending babyface turn for Wheeler Yuta?
2nd Match: FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Hardwood) (with Stokley) vs. JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) in an AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament Quarter Final Match | Match Rating: ****.25 |
3rd Match: Toni Storm [c] vs. Billie Starkz (with Athena) in an AEW Women’s World Title Eliminator Match | Match Rating: ***.50 | It wasn't anything eye-popping, but I'm very glad Billie Starkz is getting some shine on Dynamite this match. I was a little bit entertained. I do like that they are starting the story for Tini Storn with Athena. This is going to be a feud that'll be very entertaining if they give it a good amount of spotlight. Toni Storm gets the win, but the story is getting started between her and the ROH Women's World Champion, Athena.
4th Match: Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana) vs. Hechicero (with Don Callis) in a Single Match | Match Rating: N/A | This was not hitting for me. Swerve Strickland and Hechicero didn't have the best chemistry, but for storyline purposes, I see why they did the DQ finish to progress the story being told for Swerve Strickland and Kazuchika Okada, as they'll be rumored to fight at Forbidden Door for the AEW Unified Championship.
The Main Event Match: Mark Briscoe vs. Claudio Castagnoli in a Singles Match | Match Rating: ***.25 | This was a fine Main Event. Mark Briscoe is always a joy to watch in the ring. I don't, but this year, Claudio Castagnoli has taken a dip in the ring performance. But Mark Briscoe gets the win in the Main Event.
The July 23rd | Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite — Match of the Night: FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Hardwood) (with Stokley) vs. JetSpeed (Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) in an AEW World Tag Team Title Eliminator Tournament Quarter Final Match | Match Rating: ****.25
The July 23rd | Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite — Episode Grade: 7/10 (B-) — A very solid episode of Dynamite, what caught my eye is that the Tag Division is starting to feel important again, and I’m so happy about that. Toni Storm and Athena’s feud is starting to get underway, and Adam Page and Jon Moxley next week will fight for the AEW World Title with everyone barred from ringside.
Next Week Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite | July 30th Episode — The Announced Matches & Segments:
