My Thoughts: This was a strong episode of Dynamite, featuring great matches and the return of Kenny Omega. It has been the best weekly wrestling show this year, with excellent buildup to ALL IN.
The July 2nd | Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite — Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Mercedes Moné (c) vs. Mina Shriakawa in a Singles Title Match for the AEW TBS Championship | Match Rating: ***.75 | One of the best wrestlers in the world, Mercedes Mone, has another amazing match with Mina Shriakawa, who also had a great performance in this match. I do think the build for Mercedes Mone and Toni Storm has been very lackluster, but I know the match will be worth it, as they both are the best in the world today, so I don't doubt anything. Mina Shriakawa's booking since arriving full-time at AEW has been solid. I do think she can benefit the mid-card very well.
2nd Match: MJF (with Bobby Lashley, MVP & Shelton Benjamin) vs. Anthony Bowens vs. AR Fox vs. Brody King in a Men’s Casino Gauntlet Number Two Spot Four-Way Match | Match Rating: ***.25 | I thought Brody King was going to win and MJF get screwed over by Mistico but that didn't happen now MJF has a role in ALL IN as he'll be the 2nd particapnt in the Men's Casino Gauntlet Match. I'm excited for MJF's involvement. I won't be shocked if he wins the match, but I hope they stack the match with a lot of big-time names so the match can be unpredictable and amazing. But this Four-Way Match was a lot of fun, and please give AR Fox more time on TV. He's one of the most underrated talents in AEW and in wrestling today.
3rd Match: Konosuke Takeshita & The Young Bucks (Matthew Joackson & Nicholas Jackson) vs. Bandido & Paragon (Kyle O’Reilly & Roderick Strong) in a Six-Man Tag Team Match | Match Rating: ****.25 | A very much PWG Style 6-Man Tag Team Match. I enjoyed this, and the Young Bucks, since turning heel last year, have been on a different level as they have been elevating their game and continuing to show why they are one of the best tag teams to ever do it. Konosuke Takeshita and Bandido had some good back-and-forth. Paragon, I forgot they were a thing always good to see KOR and Roderick Strong battling in Tag Matches; they deliver in Tag Matches all the time.
4th Match: Swerve Strickland & Will Ospreay vs. La Faccion Ingobernable (Draslistico & The Beast Mortos) in a Tag Team Match | Match Rating: ***.50 | This match was casual and wasn't anything special. I thought Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay getting more reps as a tag team is smart, as they're preparing for the Young Bucks at ALL IN Texas. They get the win and are 2-0 as a Tag Team now as they took down La Faccion Ingobernable.
The Main Event Match: Kazuchika Okada (with Lance Archer) vs. Kota Ibushi in a Singles Match | Match Rating | ****.50 | Kazuchika Okada and Kota Ibushi took this back to Wrestle Kingdom 14. Kota Ibushi is back, ladies and gentlemen, because my goodness, he looked great in this main event bout against one of his best rivals in Kazuchika Okada. Kota Ibushi had so many moments where he turned back the clock. I'm glad he rested and allowed his injuries to heal. After the match, Kenny Omega returned to save his Golden Lovers teammate to a big reception. Amazing ending to the show.
The July 2nd | Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite — Match of the Night: Kazuchika Okada (with Lance Archer) vs. Kota Ibushi in a Singles Match | Match Rating | ****.50
