My Thoughts on the May 14th Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite:
My Thoughts: This was an okay episode of AEW Dynamite. The opening match made the start of the episode very exciting, but that was the peak of the episode for me. I thought MJF getting into the Hurt Business finally was such a funny moment. I don't think it'll last knowing MJF's history, but I'm going to enjoy every seconf og it. Mina gets the win over Toni Storm, which led to a match being made for the title at Double or Nothing. The Main Event Match was very mediocre to me. We saw Gabe Kidd come and help Jon Moxley, which didn't make sense to me. Afterwards, a huge brawl ensued where Swerve Strickland comes out and makes the rescue and announces at Double or Nothing for an Archery in an Arena Match. The past week's episodes were great, but this episode kinda tuned down. As we are almost at Double or Nothing, they need to have another strong episode before the event.
The May 14th | Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite | Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Adam Page & Will Ospreay vs. The Don Callis Family (Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita) in a Tag Team Match | Match Rating: ****.25 | An exceptional opening match for Dynamite. This match was the can they coexist with each other a classic in the storytelling and booking of wrestling, as it has been used countless times. Easily the best match on the show. I loved the pairing of Hangman Page and Will Ospreay; they indeed coexist and had some brief moments of tension. But they put it all together to take down Josh Alexander and Konosuke Takeshita of The Don Callis Family to rack up a victory.
2nd Match: Ricochet vs. Zach Gowen in a Singles Match | Match Rating: *** | Ricochet is one of the best heels in the business. This match was quick, but it did the job to further the menacing side of Ricochet. I thought this was a solid match on the card, it felt like it pushed Ricochet even more as one of the top villains in the company. Zach Gowan gave some offense in the match. After the match, Ricochet wasn't done, but before he could do worse, Mark Briscoe came and saved Zach Gowen. A Ricochet and Mark Briscoe feud does entice me. If this is what they're moving forward with, I'm 100% with this decision.
3rd Match: The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley & Shelton Benjamin) (with MVP) [c] vs. Top Flight (Dante Martin & Darius Martin) (with Leila Grey) in an AEW World Tag Team Championship Eliminator Match | Match Rating: N/A | This was a straight up slaughter as The Hurt Syndicate made quick easy work out of Top Fliught. Afterwards, new challengers came to the plate as Dustin Rhodes and Sammy Guevara, who are the current ROH Tag Team Champions, issued a challenge for the AEW World Tag Team Titles.
4th Match: Toni Storm (with Luther) [c] vs. Mina Shirakawa vs. AZM vs. Skye Blue in an AEW Women’s World Championship Eliminator Four Way Match | Match Rating: ***.50 | This match was cool and somewhat had some messy moments. But I see what they're trying to do and revisit the story being told for Toni Storm and Mina Shriakawa, as last week they had a brief story being told with Mariah May being included. The ending of this match was done well as Mina Shriakawa got the win and now will face Toni Storm at Double or Nothing for the AEW Women's World Championship.
The Main Event Match: Jon Moxley (with Marina Shafir) (c) vs. Samoa Joe in a Steel Cage Match for the AEW World Championship | Match Rating: ***.25 | I wasn't a huge fan of this match at all. The steel cage stipulation I would've thought would make the match better, but it just didn't do anything for me. We knew Kon Mokhley was going to win, but I didn't expect him to get help from Gabe Kidd from New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Jon Moxley got the briefcase he carries thanks to Gabe Kidd and used it to hit Smaoa Joe in the head to get the pin-fall win and to retain his AEW World Title. Afterwards, more drama as Swerve Strickland came out to brawl and announced for Double or Nothing an Anarchy in Arena Match.
The May 14th | Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite | Match of the Night: Adam Page & Will Ospreay vs. The Don Callis Family (Josh Alexander & Konosuke Takeshita) in a Tag Team Match | Match Rating: ****.25
The May 14th | Edition of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite | Episode Grade: 6.50/10 (C+) | This was an up-and-down episode of Dynamite. What I did enjoy from this show was the opening match and MJF getting in the Hurt Syndicate, which was really good stuff. I thought the steel cage match was mediocre at best, but seeing Gabe Kidd after the promo he just did a couple of days ago on NJPW is kinda hilarious. But all and all, the road for Double or Nothing is heating up and I’m quite excited for the event because of the conclusion of the Owen Hart Tournament for the Men and Women side as well as for the Anarchy in the Arena Match.
