My Thoughts on the June 11th Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster:
My Thoughts: This was a fire Summer Blockbuster Dynamite episode. I felt like the first two hours were more story-driven, but we did get a fun opener with some of the stories shaping up for Grand Slam Mexico. What I like about this episode was the Hangman stuff he told off the Young Bucks, and we saw Prince Nana and Swerve Strickland hearing what was said. Just all around a fun episode, and it got me excited for next week's show in Mexico. The women in the Main Event had an okay tag match, but I want more of the women in the main event, and we have seen that recently. Dynamite has been an exceptional show, and I didn't see any holes in this episode.
The June 11th | Episode of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster | Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana) vs. Will Ospreay in a Singles Match | Match Rating: ****.50 | This wasn't even near the first match, which took place last year, but it was the Match of the Night. I liked the back-and-forth action, but I feel like a lot of people have been overrating this match. This was a solid match, but nothing close to their first one back last year. The sequences were okay, I wish they could have switched it up. But I didn't expect a Time Limit Draw, but the Young Bucks went and attacked, but Will Ospreay took the bullet for Swerve Strickland. It's looking like it's going to be Swerve Strickland & Will Ospreay vs. The Young Bucks at AEW ALL IN Texas, which I don't mind, as that will be a great match, but a great opener, and we see what direction Swerve Strickland and Will Ospreay will be going for the ALL IN Texas event.
2nd Match: Mistico vs. Blake Christian (with Lee Johnson) in a Singles Match | Match Rating: N/A | This was a quick, impressive match for Sin Cara, I mean Mistico, as he made quick work of Blake Christian. After the match, MJF went after Mistico and called him sloppy Sin Cara, and a challenge was made for Grand Slam Mexico, which was accepted.
3rd Match: The Hurt Syndicate (Bobby Lashley, MJF & Shelton Benjamin) vs. Jet Speed (Kevin Knight & Mike Bailey) & Mascara Dorada in a Six-Man Tag Team Match | Match Rating: ***.25 | It was an okay Six-Man Tag Team Match. I did like the bit of MJF wearing MVP-inspired attire that was funny, he fitting in with that stable. The match itself had some solid moments, but I knew the Hurt Syndicate was going to win this match. MJF addeing more fuel to the fire ripped the mask off of Mascada Dorada to a huge eruption of boo's in the arena. I do like MJF in this group, and he adds more layers to the group, but next week, he'll face Mistico in Mexico, so more heel heat is going into that match.
The Main Event Match: TayJay (Anna Jay & Tay Melo) vs. Megan Bayne & Penelope Ford in a Tag Team Match | Match Rating: **.75 | This was an okay Main Event tag team match. AnnaTay are back as a unit, and the women's tag division has been getting a lot of focus, which leads me to believe the pending AEW Women's Tag Belts are coming. But Megan Bayne is great; she has been slowly becoming one of my favorites on the women's side, and her team with Penelope Ford is working. Anna Jay did okay, same with Tay Melo. But I'm glad the women closed out the Dynamite portion of the Summer Blockbuster episode.
The June 11th | Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster | Match of the Night: Swerve Strickland (with Prince Nana) vs. Will Ospreay in a Singles Match | Match Rating: ****.50
The June 11th | Edition of Wednesday Night AEW Dynamite: Summer Blockbuster | Episode Grade: 8/10 (B+) | This was a very solid episode of Dynamite. The Summer Blockbuster’s first two hours were solid. I thought The Opener and the Six-Man Tag were the highlights, with the Kenny Omega and Kazuchika Okada in-ring segment.
