Thoughts on the April 4th Edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown:
Thoughts: This episode of SmackDown was quite impressive. Overall, the show delivered well. My only concern remains the absence of Carmelo Hayes and Andrade, who were prominent during the second half of last year. I hope they receive bigger roles on SmackDown soon. The opening segment featuring CM Punk was captivating, especially when he hinted at his support for Paul Heyman. The wrestling matches throughout the show were notable; I particularly enjoyed Rey Fenix's WWE debut and the Main Event Last Man Standing Match. However, Charlotte and Tiffany Stratton's segment felt awkward, turning into an uncomfortable shoot that brought up significant aspects of Charlotte's life, though I understand Tiffany's motives since Charlotte has been undermining her. Sadly, Kevin Owens will be sidelined for an extended period due to a neck injury as he announced his upcoming surgery. Meanwhile, Randy Orton will miss WrestleMania in Las Vegas. CM Punk concluded the show by delivering a GTS to Roman Reigns. In summary, it was a solid show overall.
The April 4th | Edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown | Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Rey Fenix vs. Nathan Frazer in a Singles Match | Match Rating: ****.25 | This was a great way to showcase Rey Fenix in his debut match in WWE. Nathan Frazer, as his first opponent, was a great choice, and this also shows the amount of faith they have in Nathan Frazer. This was such a fast-paced match with incredible moves. Nathan Frazer looked like Sonic in the ring, and Rey Fenix was showing off his high-flying arsenal as the fans were cheering Rey Fenix on. Nathan Frazer kicked out of a near-fall. But Rey Fenix got the win. Great new addition to SmackDown they needed someone like Rey Fenix, and he's going to help their roster out a lot. Now Rey Fenix's first feud might be Santos Escobar and LDF. Hopefully, they have him in meaningful stories on SmackDown, noting the show has been very abysmal this year.
2nd Match: LA Knight vs. Tama Tonga (with Solo Sikoa) in a Singles Match | Match Rating: *** | This was a well-done television match. Tama Tonga has been such a team player since arriving at WWE last year he has been such a great piece for SmackDown. LA Knight looked solid in this match. I wonder what is next for him once he's done with Jacob Fatu after WrestleMania if he's still the WWE United States Champion.
3rd Match: Motor City Machine Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. #DIY (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) in a WWE Tag Team Championship Number One Contender Tag Team Match | Match Rating: ***.25 | Way better than the previous encounter these two had at the Royal Rumble. But this was a solid tag team match. Motor City gets their chance at gold as they're the new number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships. But I have a huge feeling some type of interference will happen once they face The Street Profits for the titles whenever they do. But overall very fine tag team match.
4th Match: Naomi vs. B-Fab in a Singles Match | Match Rating: N/A | Before things kicked off, Jade Cargill finally got to put her hands on Naomi before her match against B-Fab. But that didn’t work, as Naomi made quick work of B-Fab in less than two minutes. The SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis announced that at WrestleMania in Las Vegas, it’ll be Jade Cargill taking on Naomi as the feud has reached uncharted levels and needs to find an end at WrestleMania in Las Vegas.
The Main Event Match: Jacob Fatu vs. Braun Strowman in a WWE United States Championship Number One Contenders Last Man Standing Match | Match Rating: ****.50 | What a damn match. Braun Strowman's two best matches since his return have been Last Man Standing Matches with Bronson Reed and now Jacob Fatu. This was a dogfight, a heavyweight clash, because, my goodness, what a mess they made everywhere. The right person won in Jacob Fatu, and now the rivalry between Jacob Fatu and Braun Strowman is over as Jacob Fatu moves on to LA Knight and the WWE United States Championship. But man, great job by Braun Strowman, who helped establish Bronson Reed and help make Jacob Fatu more of a massive threat than he was. Amazing match. Great main event.
The April 4th | WWE Friday Night SmackDown | Match of the Night: Jacob Fatu vs. Braun Strowman in a WWE United States Championship Number One Contenders Last Man Standing Match | Match Rating: ****.50
The April 4th | Edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown | Episode Grade: 8.50/10 (B+) | A very good episode of SmackDown. This is how the shows should be, but don’t forget Andrade and Carmelo Hayes patiently waiting for them to have meaningful things on SmackDown. But it was a very good show, with a fun Chicago Crowd roaring on throughout the night.
