Thoughts on the January 31st Edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown Show:
Thoughts: A very average episode of SmackDown but we saw Kevin Owens and CM Punk kick off the show in a very fun opening segment. It's crazy to see these two in the ring noting their past history not liking each other. Carmelo Hayes suffers another loss to Jimmy Uso as the opening match. I really hope Carmelo Hayes has a great performance in the Royal Rumble as he needs that to really that push for him to win some championship gold. Michin and Chelsea Green had a very poor match which ended in DQ. There was no need for this match if that was gonna be the end result the feud will still continue but I do hope at the end Michin becomes the next WWE Women's United States Champion. Damian Priest had a very fiery promo battle with Jacob Fatu which proceed a brawl and LA Knight coming to aid him. Damian Priest on SmackDown is gonna rock I'm very excited to see how this goes. MCGM gets the win against D.I.Y. and Pretty Deadly after Los Garzas walked out on them. Naomi and Liv Morgan had a very below average match wasn't the fault on either the chemistry didn't seem to be there whatsoever. Andrade and The Miz had a very fun match with Andrade getting the win with a spinning back elbow. Damian Priest and LA Knight defeat Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga but both men weren't ending the show standing tall and high as Jacob Fatu was after the match ended. Average show but I'm excited for the Royal Rumble as it's indeed one of my favorite wrestling events since I was a kid.
The January 31st, Edition of WWE Friday Night SmackDown Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Jimmy Uso vs. Carmelo Hayes in a Singles Match - Match Rating: ***.25 - This wasn't bad but it could have been better in my opinion. I like the fact Carmelo Hayes is a weekly fixture on SmackDown but I want him to start winning so people can take him seriously because these matches he has been losing he should be winning. I hope at the Royal Rumble he has an iron-man performance in the match because he needs a great showing.
2nd Match: Michin (with B-Fab) defeats Chelsea Green (with Piper Niven) in a Singles Match for the WWE Women’s United States Championship - Match Rating: N/A - I really wanted this match to be good but this was a mess. The way this match just felt off sucked because I thought this was gonna be the match where Michin finally wins the WWE Women's United States Championship. The kendo stick to cause the DQ wasn't needed but I see where they're going with this they want this feud to end in a No DQ type of match.
3rd Match: Los Garzas (Angel & Berto) & The Motor City Machines Guns (Alex Shelley & Chris Sabin) vs. D.I.Y. (Johnny Garagno & Tommaso Ciampa) & Pretty Deadly (Elton Prince & Kit Wilson) in a Eight-Man Tag Team - Match Rating: *** - This was a solid match. Los Garzas leaving mid-way was a nice touch as they weren't trusting of MCGM before the match as they just want to get their hands on the WWE Tag Team Championships. Pretty Deadly might of turned a new leaf as they were fed up with D.I.Y. during the match and afterwards as they might be signaling a face-turn in the near future. MCGM got the win as they get the much needed momentum for their match tomorrow at the Royal Rumble.
4th Match: Naomi (with Bianca Belair) vs. Liv Morgan (with Raquel Rodriguez) in a Singles Match - Match Rating: **.75 - Nothing on Naomi she's a very fun wrestler to watch but this match she didn't mesh with Liv Morgan whatsoever. The match was very much boring and SmackDown needs too finally add some stars because they need one or two more stars to add in the SmackDown Women's Division.
5th Match: Andrade vs. The Miz in a Singles Match - Match Rating: ***.75 - This was surprisingly a very fun match between these two. It's always a joy to watch Andrade wrestle as in my opinion he's one of the best wrestlers on the roster today. I liked how The Miz really went deep in his bag to have a very solid match with Andrade as both men really delivered in this match. The last thirty seconds of this match was a joy and a spinning back elbow got the win for Andrade. I hope Andrade is in the rumble because he can have a stellar performance like he did last year.
The Main Event Match: Damian Priest & LA Knight defeats Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga in a Tag Team Match - Match Rating: **** - A very fun main event match. Damian Priest on SmackDown is gonna be a joy as he'll fill that need for the Main Event slot on every show as he delivers hot matches with the crowd roaring. The chemistry he has with Jacob Fatu was very solid it was like two heavyweights going back and forth and ready to tear each other into pieces. LA Knight and Tama Tonga looked solid in this match as both men really were going at it at each other. Damian Priest and LA Knight got the win but Jacob Fatu was the man standing to end the show.
The January 31st, WWE Friday Night SmackDown Match of the Night: Damian Priest & LA Knight defeats Jacob Fatu & Tama Tonga in a Tag Team Match - Match Rating: ****
