My Thoughts on the August 15th Episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown:

My Thoughts: This was a fairly decent episode of SmackDown. Sami Zayn was officially announced as part of the Friday Night SmackDown roster, which is a great addition, bringing a lot to this otherwise lackluster lineup. The matches tonight were satisfactory; I didn’t see any terrible ones. The Drew McIntyre segment was straightforward and very enjoyable, and I like that he’s back as a serious character. Overall, it was a solid episode. I appreciated the pacing and the time allocated to each match, allowing proper development and multiple momentum shifts. I gave a pass to the main event because Sami Zayn wrestled, and I always enjoy seeing him in the ring. Moving forward, SmackDown should focus more on matches and less on segments. With the WWE Draft coming up, keeping Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn on SmackDown is essential for helping the show improve in the months ahead.

The August 15th Episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown — The Match Ratings:

The Opening Match: Alexa Bliss (with Charlotte Flair) vs. Piper Niven (with Alba Fyre & Chelsea Green) in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: **.50— This was an okay opener. I did like it, got some time, and allowed both women to go. I did like the offense on display by both women, and I like the fact that Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair have been workhorses so far since winning the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles at SummerSlam from The Judgement Day. Piper Niven has been such a valuable piece for the SmackDown Women’s Roster; she can go in the ring and be a good heel with good tactics, trying to find any way to win. Alexa Bliss got the win, but the Secret Hervice after the match made it known that they are targeting the WWE Women’s Tag Team Titles as they laid out Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair to make their message heard. Maybe when WWE SmackDown is in France, we might see the WWE Women’s Tag Team Title Match then, but I’m happy with Secret Hervice looking strong.

2nd Match: Melo Don’t Miz (Carmelo Hayes & The Miz) vs. Fraxiom (Axiom & Nathan Frazer) in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: **** — This was a very fun tag team match. I didn’t expect Melo Don’t Miz to win because the story being told at this moment is that Carmelo Hayes’ face turn is on the horizon, so I thought him losing in his hometown would set him off, but nope, they got the win. But this match was really fun. I liked how The Miz had some cool sets of moves in this match. He did himself one in this match. Axiom and Nathan Frazer had a great performance as Wyatt Sicks watched from the crowd. Carmelo Hayes was balling in this match. He was showing people why he should be pushed and be on top of the SmackDown Card. The finish to this match shocked me a lot because we saw The Miz tag himself in, hit the Skull-Crushing Finale, and got the win for his team with Carmelo Hayes irate as he was about to finish off Nathan Frazer. I do see this story progress, and the turn is coming, and the mega push might be coming for one of the most talented young stars in wrestling today.

3rd Match: The Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) (with B-Fab) vs. D.I.Y. (Johnny Gargano & Tommaso Ciampa) (with Candice LeRae) in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: ***.50 — This was a very fun tag team match. The show has been carried by some quality tag team wrestling. This match had a lot of drama and high moments. There were some moments in the match I thought the Street Profits were done for, but they weren’t. They kept being in the fight and continued to take down D.I.Y. B-Fab took a nasty dump on the outside by hitting hard on the steel steps because of Candice LeRae. I did like how the match finished as The Street Profits got the win and continue to restart the momentum they need to get a shot at the WWE Tag Team Titles again soon. But overall very solid tag team wrestling match, and the SmackDown Tag Team Division continues to be the best part of Friday Night SmackDown every week, as they delivered two solid matches tonight.

The Main Event Match: Jacob Fatu, Jimmy Uso & Sami Zayn vs. The MFT (JC Mateo, Solo Sikoa & Tonga Loa) (with Talla Tonga) in a Six-Man Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: *** — This was a very passable Main Event Match. This was given around twelve minutes, and I’m happy no DQ finish happened. Man, a team with Jacob Fatu and Sami Zayn was so awesome to watch. I thought this was easily the best SmackDown Main Event in the past month, noting how the recent Main Events on SmackDown were given. But this was good. I liked the finish with Jacob Fatu giving his trust to Sami Zayn, and back-to-back weeks, he has beaten the WWE United States Champion, Solo Sikoa. which leads me to believe a future shot at the title will be happening either at WWE Clash at Paris or at the France Episode of Friday Night SmackDown. To end the show, we saw Jacob Fatu finally embrace Sami Zayn to a loud reception, and it was a good way to end a very solid episode of Friday Night SmackDown.

The August 15th WWE Friday Night SmackDown  The Match of the Night: Melo Don’t Miz (Carmelo Hayes & The Miz) vs. Fraxiom (Axiom & Nathan Frazer) in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: ****

The August 15th Episode of WWE Friday Night SmackDown — The Episode Grade: 6.50/10 (C+) — I don’t know what tonight’s episode was, but I enjoyed this episode of Friday Night SmackDown. What I liked about tonight’s is the pacing and the amount of time each match got. I felt like each match had a proper amount of time to develop the match and shift into numerous gears. The Drew McIntyre segment was straight to the point. The Main Event Match I gave a pass to because Sami Zayn got to wrestle, and I always enjoy it when he’s in that square circle. But this is what SmackDown should be focusing on: the matches and less of the segments. With the WWE Draft coming, having Drew McIntyre and Sami Zayn stay on SmackDown is a must if they want to get this show back on track for the following months after the pending WWE Draft.
