My Thoughts on the WWE Premium Live Event — WWE Heatwave:
My Thoughts: The event was indeed enjoyable, with several matches showcasing varying levels of performance. Although a few were deemed mediocre, NXT consistently excels in its Premium Live Events (PLEs) compared to the Main Roster. This disparity highlights the dedication and effort of NXT Wrestlers, who strive to exceed expectations at each event. Notably, the Main Event, featuring Oba Femi and Je’Von Evans, was commendable and is considered a candidate for WWE Match of the Year. As we transition towards WWE No Mercy at the end of September, the anticipation for future events continues to build.
WWE Premium Live Event | WWE Heatwave — The Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Lola Vice vs. Jaida Parker vs. Kelani Jordan in a WWE NXT Women’s Title Number One Contendership Triple Threat Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — A very good way to kick off Heatwave. This was a very fun match with three women who should of much more to do this year, but that was delayed because of the arrival of Giulia, Jordynne Grace, and Stephanie Vaquer. But this was fun. I wanted Jiada Parker to win because she has improved mightily, but Lola Vice, who has had an uneventful, lackluster 2025, gets the win, which redirects her towards the WWE NXT Women's Title. All three women are very talented, so whoever won, I was going to be happy with them regardless. But this was a very fun opener, and every lady did their thing, and I like how the finish played out.
The 2nd Match: DarkState (Dion Lennox & Osiris Griffin) (with Cutler James & Saquon Shugars) vs. Hank And Tank (Hank Walker & Tank Ledger) (c) in a WWE NXT Tag Team Title Match | The Match Rating: *** — Hank and Tank rock; they are so good as a tag team, and they went ballistic in this match. DarkState, I wished Saquon Shugars, fka Lucky Ali, to get in this match. He's the star of this group, but Dion Lennox and the muscle of Osiris Griffin. Hank and Tank, in my opinion, carried this match. DarkState wasn't doing anything for me now. If Saquon Shugars were in this match, I would have had this match higher. But Hank and Tank, in the end they were going insane. I thought they would retain, but DarkState got the win and are now the WWE NXT Tag Team Champions. Hank and Tank are my picks for one of the most exciting teams to watch. They are just so awesome.
The 3rd Match: Ash By Elegance (with Heather By Elegance, M By Elegance & The Personal Concierge) vs. Jacy Jayne (with Fallon Henley & Jazmyn Nyx) vs. Masha Slamovich in a TNA Knockouts World Title Triple Threat Match | The Match Rating: **.75 — This match was very much everywhere. Fatal Influence was kicked out thanks to Jazmyn Nyx. This match was such a fever dream because Dana Brooke, someone who was a jobber all through her WWE Career and was the face of the 24/7 Title, but outside of the stuff with Charlotte Flair, she was a lower-card person in WWE, but now she goes by Ash By Elegance and is now the TNA Knockouts World Champion on top of the TNA Women's Division. This was such a shocking moment because I had Masha Slamovich winning this match when Ash By Elegance got the win. I couldn't believe it, but I'm happy for her because she did work hard to get where she is now. Now, Jacy Jayne only has the WWE NXT Women's Title and has to worry about Lola Vice now.
The 4th Match: Blake Monroe vs. Jordynne Grace in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — What a match. Jordynne Grace is easily in the Top 5 of the best Female American Wrestlers in the world. Blake Monre fka Mariah May, what a 1st PLE Singles Match for her. This was such an awesome match, the 2nd Best Match of the Heatwave PLE. Jordynne Grace in NXT has done a great job in putting people over and helping establish people on NXT, but when she goes to the Main Roster, she needs one of the Mid-Card Titles immediately because she is such a valuable piece to WWE. Blake Monroe gets her 2nd PLE Win and her 1st Singles PLE win. She looked great. I know she gets criticized, but she has done a great job in-ring-wise since arriving at WWE.
The 5th Match: Chelsea Green & Ethan Page (with Alba Fyre & Piper Niven) vs. Tavion Heights & Tyra Mae Steele in a Mixed Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: **.25 — This was a fun filler Mixed Tag Team Match. The pairing of Chelsea Green with the WWE NXT North American Champion, Ethan Page, has been money. This pairing has been something that I've enjoyed, and I hope it continues when Ethan Page moves to the Main Roster. Tavion Heights is so good I can't wait when his push to further, and Tyra Mae Steele is very green. She hasn't wowed me yet, but I hope she does soon. But Chelsea Green and Ethan Page winning was 100%b the right call by the way they have built these two up as a unit.
The Main Event Match: Oba Femi (c) vs. Je’Von Evans in a WWE NXT Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.75 — This was amazing. Easily a Match of the Year Canadaite, and this has to show you when Cody Rhodes is done, I know who the next red-hot babyface or ace of WWE should be in Je'Von Evans, he is one of the best young talents I've ever seen. Oba Femi is going to be a Multi-Style Time World Champion. He is the Ruler for a reason; he's amazing. This match was a David vs. Goliath-style match, and when watching this match, I couldn't stay in my seat. This match had it all, and the crowd was reacting accordingly. I thought Je'Von Evans had the match won, but because of the ropes, he didn't. Oba Femi got the upper hand and won. Ricky Saints came out afterwards and declared he's next in line for Oba Femi's WWE NXT World Title.
WWE Premium Live Event | WWE Heatwave — The Match of the Night: Oba Femi (c) vs. Je’Von Evans in a WWE NXT Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.75
WWE Premium Live Event | WWE Heatwave — The Event Grade: 8/10 (B) — This was a very fun event. I thought a couple of matches were just very mediocre, but NXT always seems to deliver when it comes to the PLEs. They have had more enjoyable PLEs than the Main Roster. But that goes to show how hard the NXT Wrestlers have been working and trying to overachieve every event, and I’m very happy about that. The Main Event was a WWE Match of the Year candidate. Oba Femi and Je’Von Evans tore the house down, but this was a very fun event, and now we shift towards WWE No Mercy at the end of September.
