My Thoughts on the August 18th Episode of WWE Monday Night RAW:
My Thoughts: After two average to mediocre episodes, Monday Night RAW returned to form with a fun show. I enjoyed the opener featuring IYO SKY and Raquel Rodriguez, and the matches throughout the evening were entertaining. The Main Event also delivered excitement. In 2025, RAW has set a standard that I wish SmackDown could match, but changes won’t happen until Road Dogg steps down from the Co-Lead Writer position. This is what weekly shows should embody: drama, chaos, and thrilling matches. One critique I have is the repetitive angles, particularly Seth Rollins' opening the show. He should focus on delivering All-Star Tag matches and more intense bouts. Overall, it was a fun episode of Monday Night RAW.
The August 18th Episode of WWE Monday Night RAW — The Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: IYO SKY vs. Raquel Rodriguez (with Roxanne Perez) in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ***.50 — Kevin Nash's advice saved Raquel Rodriguez's career because her match quality has spiked up, and they have been very enjoyable. Now, when I see she has a match, I'm quite excited. This was a very fun opener. IYO SKY, one of the best wrestlers in the world in the square circle, weekly is something that needs to be permanent; she's allergic to horrendous matches. But this match had some good action and some nice spots. IYO SKY got the win, but a beatdown occurred after the match, which led Rhea Ripley to come down and save IYO SKY. Backstage, a confrontation occurred with Asuka as she is starting to grow jealous of the alliance and brewing friendship between IYO SKY and Rhea Ripley, which is planting the seeds for a Kabuki Warriors heel turn that has been rumored for months now. But great stuff all-around, and I have to say the woman getting so much spotlight has been the best part of this 2025 for WWE.
The 2nd Match: Penta vs. Xavier Woods (with Grayson Waller & Kofi Kingston) in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: **.75 — This was a very in the middle-match if I have to say. I'm happy they gave something for Penta to do, as this is such a filler feud if I ever saw one. This match was very normal, nothing too special, as expected, Penta got the win and the feud. If I have to say, is kinda interesting. It's something fresh, and next week, as RAW goes to England, Penta will go against Kofi Kingston. They need to add another layer to this feud to make it heat up, and I would have Kofi Kingston win and a beat-down occur afterwards. But other than that, I'm glad this is a feud because The New Day are one of my favorites, same with Penta, so I'm enjoying this for however long this feud will be running. I would love this to reunite the Lucha Bros, but that's going to be on hold for the foreseeable future.
The 3rd Match: The Judgement Day (Finn Balor & JD McDonagh) (with Dominik Mysterio) vs. Dragon Lee & Mr. Iguana in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — Dragon Lee getting weekly matches is my dream come true. This was a very fun tag team match. Love seeing Dragon Lee wrestle. He has been underutilized and should be higher up on the card. Hopefully, they pull that trigger eventually. He's in his early 30s and can be a valuable piece for the future of WWE. But this match had some high-flying and comedic relief due to Mr. Igauana being in this match. I knew The Judgement Day were going to win but after the match AAA Mega Champion El Hijo del Vikingo came out and try to even the odds but it was too much as The Judgement Day got the upper hand and Dominik Mysterio hit a Frog-Splash to put him down for good as in a few weeks he'll face El Hijo del Vikingo in the Main Event of AAA x WWE Worlds Collide II for the AAA Mega Championship. But I would love to see a Six-Man Tag Team Match next week in England, as it can be The Judgement Day (Dominik Mysterio, Finn Balor & JD McDonagh) vs. Dragon Lee, El Hijo del Vikingo & Mr. Igauna, that can be a very fun Six-Man Tag Team Match.
The 4th Match: Becky Lynch (c) vs. Natalya (with Akira Tozawa & Maxxine Dupri) in a WWE Women’s Intercontinental Title Match | The Match Rating: **.25 — This was a filler title match on the show to make Becky Lynch more of a cocky, egotistical bastard than she already is. Last week, she made quick work of Maxxine Dupri, and this week, she made easy work of Natalya. She got the win using a Disarmer and proceeded to attack after the match, but before anything could get maximized, Nikki Bella came to the rescue and hit a Rack-Attack to put down Becky Lynch, as a pending WWE Women's Intercontinental Title Match is looming. But Becky Lynch as a heel has been money. She is cocky, a huge dick to others, and backs it up in the ring.
The Main Event Match: Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker (with Paul Heyman in an Extreme Rules Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — This was a pretty sick Extreme Rules Match. I love the tribute to New Jack by Jey Uso, featuring the shopping cart, bandana, and attire. Bron Breakker was dishing out great attacks in this match and showing his dominance, which makes it more fitting that this match took place in Jflirfniqtln, the home of Extreme in ECW. Jey Uso chair shots to Bron Breakker looked great; I thought the chair shots were very brutal. I knew more chaos was coming as LA Knight came out to get Bronson Reed and as he was dishing out some punches CM Punk came out and shared back-and-foirth punches wirh LA Knight but Seth Rollins pushed CM Punk into LA Knight which caused him to crash through the table as CM Punk and Seth Rollins brawled into the crowd and out of view. Back to the ring, more action on the outside as it's carnage everywhere, but Roman Reigns came out and attacked the man who had been taking his Jordans, Bronson Reed, hitting a Superman Punch. He helped Jey Uso get the win in the Main Event and issued a challenge at Clash in Paris to Bronson Reed for a one-on-one match, which was accepted, so the 4th Match was confirmed for WWE Clash in Paris. This was a very fun Main Event. I hope they see that adding stipulation time to time gives the shows more life. No one DQ Finishes have some crazy car-crash matches like this right here, great stuff by both men, and I have to say Jey Uso, as of late, has been putting on some good performances, and I give him the respect where it's due for that.
The August 18th Episode of WWE Monday Night RAW — The Match of the Night: Jey Uso vs. Bron Breakker (with Paul Heyman in an Extreme Rules Match | The Match Rating: ****.25
The August 18th Episode of WWE Monday Night RAW — The Episode Grade: 8.25/10 (B+) — After the previous two episodes of Monday Night RAW being average to mediocre, it was back to the basic standard as they delivered a very fun show. I enjoyed the opener with IYO SKY and Raquel Rodriguez. I like the matches that were on display throughout the show, and the Main Event was quite fun. What RAW has been in 2025, I wish SmackDown was like this, but it won’t change until Road Dogg is out of the Co-Lead Writer Position. But this is what the weekly shows should be filled with: drama, chaos, and fun matches. But I critique I will give is that stop with repetitive angles like Seth Rollins opening the show, he needs to start giving us All-Star Tags and heat-heavy matches. But other than that a fun episode of Monday Night RAW.
