My Official Thoughts on WWE Night of Champions:
My Official Thoughts: WWE's event was decent, mainly because of the shocking moments, like Sami Zayn becoming a World Champion, a long-awaited and beautiful moment. WWE also picked the right winners for the King & Queen of the Ring tournaments. I wish some matches had been replaced, as a few were quite poor. Bron Breakker's loss was a questionable decision, especially since Seth Rollins is well-established. Perhaps WWE is setting up a more intense character for Breakker? Now, as we head toward SummerSlam, which is shaping up to be a compelling two-night event, WWE seems ready to start the road to SummerSlam.
My WWE Night of Champions Official Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Oba Femi vs. Jey Uso in a King Of The Ring Final Round Match | The Match Rating: ** — Happy with the result; Oba Femi is heading to SummerSlam, challenging for a World Title. Jey Uso was terrible in this match, so it didn't make sense to have Je'Von Evans lose his match just for Jey Uso to have a poor performance. But Oba Femi was fighting back and kept on striking back at Jey Uso. Oba Femi had some cool moments in this match as he was fighting back against Jey Uso's millions of superkicks he kept on giving to Oba Femi, but in the end, Oba Femi won. My gut feeling is he's going to do double duty at SummerSlam, and I do hope he wins the WWE World Heavyweight Title from Roman Reigns because it's time for the ruler to shine.
The 2nd Match: IYO SKY vs. Liv Morgan in a Queen Of The Ring Final Round Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — Before the match, Liv Morgan was cursed by Danhausen, which kinda hinted at where this was going, as IYO SKY, who has been out of the Women's World Title Picture since September of 2025, needs to win this to re-enter and challenge for one of the Women's World Titles. But this match was a lot of fun for me. Liv Morgan looked solid in this match, as did IYO SKY. I'm very happy with the results in the end, as IYO SKY not only won the Queen of the Ring, but she will face a Women's World Champion. She pinned the WWE Women's World Champion, and at SummerSlam she'll once again face Liv Morgan for the this time the WWE Women's World Title. This is the 1st confirmed match for SummerSlam in Minneapolis.
The 3rd Match: Seth Rollins vs. Bron Breakker in a Steel Cage Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — A very good match, and now this feud is over, but the results of this match had me upset. Seth Rollins had a very good showing against Bron Breakker, with many fun spots in this match, but seeing Bron Breakker lose made no sense, as this is a cornerstone piece of the future of WWE, so I don't get it. Not only did Bron Breakker lose his King of the Ring Match and WWE World Tag Team Titles, but he also lost his feud against Seth Rollins. I don't get where WWE Creative is going with Bron Breakker, but his booking in 2026 alone has been abysmal. He should've won the World Title against CM Punk in January, but now he's in limbo with no direction after losing to Seth Rollins. Now we know the rumors that Seth Rollins might be facing Roman Reigns, so we'll see what occurs as we hit the road to SummerSlam. But Bron Breakker's stock is at an all-time low, and you just have to feel for him.
The 4th Match: Trick Williams (with Lil Yachty) (c) vs. Ricky Saints in a WWE United States Title Match | The Match Rating: **.50 — I actually had this match being somewhat decent, but this was very boring to me. I didn't expect this to be this low. Trick Williams was attacked before the bell rang as Ricky Saints tried to get the upper hand. One of the only good moments in this match was the Eddie Gueeroo tribute as Ricky Saints pretended to get attacked by Lil Yachty with a Kendo Stick, which was very funny. But Trick Williams got the win with the Trick Shot Knee. But it wasn't over then, as Ricky Saints eyed Trick Williams, but Lil Yachty hit him with a Kendo Stick, then hit the People's Elbow to Ricky Saints, which was not needed, but what can I do? But now I have a feeling that Trick Williams will defend his title once again, but in a Fatal-Four Way at SummerSlam with Carmelo Hayes, Ilja Dragunov & Ricky Saints.
The 5th Match: Tiffany Stratton (c) vs. Jade Cargill in a WWE Women's United States Title Match | The Match Rating: * — This match shouldn't have occurred if it was where it was heading. This match was terrible, not the fault of the wrestlers, but how the match went. There was a lot of activity occurring outside involving B-Fab and Michin. Noting that WWE doesn't usually give a lot of time on PLEs to certain matches, this match also wasn't going to succeed, as it went on for only eight minutes. We saw the chaos happening as Jade Cargill eyed the WWE Women's United States Title on the mat. Charlotte Flair came and hammered Jade Cargill with the title as Tiffany Stratton retained. As she got the victory, we can tell which match is happening at SummerSlam. I have a feeling Charlotte Flair and Jade Cargill will be on a collision course in the first week of August.
The Main Event Match: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Gunther vs. Sami Zayn in an Undisputed WWE Title Match | The Match Rating: ***** — Unexpected moments in wrestling are what make wrestling amazing, and this was such an amazing Triple Threat Title Match. Cody Rhodes and Gunther, who already had matches against each other, had someone else, an underdog by the name of Sami Zayn, added to the match. The in-ring action in this match was great. I loved all the near-falls, the high drama, and the craziness. I did think Cody Rhodes was going to do it, as I did have Sami Zayn as my predicted winner, but man, with the results we saw, I was shocked. Sami Zayn, after being in WWE for 13 years, got the big one. He's the WWE Champion; he joins the company of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and others who have held this title. Amazing moment, very happy for Sami Zayn now he's a Grand Slam Champion. What a moment.
My WWE Night of Champions Match of the Night: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Gunther vs. Sami Zayn in an Undisputed WWE Title | The Match Rating: ***** — Unexpected moments make wrestling special, and this Triple Threat Title Match delivered. Cody Rhodes and Gunther were joined by underdog Sami Zayn, and the action was full of near-falls, drama, and chaos. I thought Cody might win, but Sami Zayn shocked me by getting the big one after 13 years in WWE. He’s now WWE Champion and a Grand Slam Champion, an amazing moment.
My WWE Night of Champions Official Event Grade: 6.75/10 (C+) — WWE had a passable event due to the shocking events, as Sami Zayn is a World Champion, which was a beautiful moment as it was long overdue, but it finally happened, and WWE chose the right people to win the King & Queen of the Ring Tournaments. I wish they could've slotted different matches in this match because some matches were quite awful. Bron Breakker not being able to win was very dumb on WWE's part, as why would they have him lose this feud when Seth Rollins is well established, unless this is going for a more psychotic Bron Breakker? Now we're on the Road to SummerSlam, and what's shaping up to be a very good two-night event, it seems like from WWE's part, so let the road to SummerSlam begin.
