My Official Thoughts on WWE NXT Great American Bash:
My Official Thoughts: Certain matches didn't fall well for me, but man, the women killed it during this show. The two major women's title matches were absolutely enjoyable. The show could've been better for some of the matches, and some matches didn't need to be on this card, but I have to say I loved the WWE NXT Women's North American Title Match and the WWE NXT Women's Title Match. I do think the NXT Women's Roster is the best in the North American Wrestling Scene, and these ladies are going to continue to show why they are the best.
My WWE NXT Great American Bash Official Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Tony D’Angelo (c) vs. Nakaru in a WWE NXT Title Match | The Match Rating: *** — I genuinely thought this was where Tony D'Angelo's reign ended, but by surprise it contiunes this was an okay opening match could've been better, but EVIL, I mean Nakaru, losing in his first big-title match was shocking because I thought Hiromu Takahashi was going to debut, and help Nakaru get the win and the title, but with one eye, Tony D'Angelo fought through the adversity and secured the much-needed win to retain his WWE NXT Title.
The 2nd Match: Zaria (c) vs. Tatum Paxley in a WWE NXT Women’s North American Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — 2nd Best Match of the Night: the ladies dominated this show, as they just showed people why this is the best women's division in all of WWE. Zaria had one of her best singles performances in WWE, and for Tatum Paxley, this being her final WWE NXT Match as she'll be moving to the Main Roster, she has finished on a great note with this spectacular match. Zaria had some awesome moments, and I'm glad she has retained. Now Tatum Paxley should go to SmackDown, as these call-ups are happening. I hope Triple H keeps each woman strong like Lola Vice & Tatum Paxley.
The 3rd Match: Shiloh Hill vs. Tristan Angels in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: *.75 — Possibly one of the worst matches for me in the NXT brand this year. I thought this match felt like a filler match for the undercard, but man, this match lacked a lot. One, this match was pretty basic, nothing wowing from this match, two I thought having Tristan Angels lose was the wrong outcome because he came out looking terrible from this entire feud, and lastly, I hope this feud is now over and done with because this was one of the worst feuds from NXT this year, and I want both to being something else as we go forward.
The 4th Match: Wren Sinclair (c) vs. Arianna Grace (with Channing Lorenzo, Charlie Dempsey, Lexis King & Uriah Connors) in a WWE Women’s Speed Title Match | The Match Rating: N/A — This match went as expected; I knew it was going to come down to the last final seconds, and Wren Sinclair got the win and retained. BirthRight has been a failure; not being able to rise has hurt them, as Creative hasn’t put them in the position to be taken seriously.
The 5th Match: Saquon Shugars vs. Dion Lennox in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — Lucky Ali, I mean Saquon Shugars, has arrived as the man who has charisma oozing from him and great in-ring ability; he was finally allowed to be the man we remembered him as in DPW. But his theme song was pretty awful; that's def rebel for you. But this match was very solid. Dion Lennox looked solid in this match, one of his top five performances of his career, and Saquon Shugars pulled away with the win. Even though he got jumped after the match, he still shined in many ways. I do expect this feud to continue, but this has been a very strong beginning for Saquon Shugars ever since he left DarkState.
The 6th Match: Myles Borne (c) vs. Tavion Heights in a WWE NXT North American Title Match | The Match Rating: **.75 — I expected a lot more from this match was pretty underwhelming to say the least. Now both talents are very good. I do believe both will have a spot on the Main Roster, but this match lacked a lot of needed intensity. I felt like some of the moments in this match didn't hit the way I wanted them to hit. I did have Tavion Heights to win, but it didn't happen as Myles Borne retained in a pretty underwhelming match.
The Main Event Match: Lola Vice (c) vs. Kendal Grey in a WWE NXT Women's Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — An epic battle between two of the best wrestlers in the NXT Women's Division, and in general of the NXT Roster. This deserved the Main Event slot, as this build and the match we saw delivered pretty well. Lola Vice did everything in NXT. I knew she was going to lose eventually, but not this soon. I'm pretty shocked by the result of Kendal Grey getting the win. Now that Kendal Grey won the WWE NXT Women's Title, I do expect Lola Vice to go to the Main Roster soon, as she can help Monday Night RAW a lot; they need some fresh faces. But Kendal Grey's rise has been great, and now we’re in for a very great title reign incoming.
My WWE NXT Great American Bash Match of the Night: Lola Vice (c) vs. Kendal Grey in a WWE NXT Women's Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.50 — An epic battle between two of the best wrestlers in the NXT Women’s Division and, more broadly, on the NXT roster. This match absolutely deserved the main event slot, as both the build and the bout itself delivered very well. Lola Vice gave everything she had in NXT, and while I knew she would lose eventually, I didn’t expect it this soon. I was honestly shocked that Kendal Grey got the win. Now that Kendal Grey has won the WWE NXT Women’s Title, I do expect Lola Vice to move to the main roster soon, where she could be a huge asset to Monday Night Raw, which could use some fresh faces. Still, Kendal Grey’s rise has been impressive, and we’re now in for what should be a very strong title reign.
My WWE NXT Great American Bash Official Event Grade: 6.50/10 (C+) — Certain matches didn’t land for me, but the women absolutely stole the show. The two major women’s title matches were incredibly enjoyable. While the event could have been stronger overall and some matches didn’t need to be on the card, I have to say I loved the WWE NXT Women’s North American Title Match and the WWE NXT Women’s Title Match. I genuinely believe the NXT women’s roster is the best in the North American wrestling scene, and these women are going to keep proving exactly why they deserve that title.
