My Official Thoughts on the June 16th Episode of WWE NXT:
My Official Thoughts: Weak episode of NXT. There wasn’t much to really stand out in the material we got. I mean, Tavion Heights going to WWE NXT Great American Bash for the WWE NXT North American Title is a very smart choice, noting the history between Myles Borne & Tavion Heights. But besides that and the Main Event Tag Team Match, this show felt very weak to me. I didn’t enjoy Jaida Parker vs. Nattie. It took too long and felt like the match went on forever, but it’s cool to see Karmen Petrovic back on NXT TV alongside Nattie. The Speed Tournament Matches were very generic. I didn’t really care for them. I do expect WWE NXT Great American Bash to be a hell of an event, as NXT PLEs have been very strong this year, but this episode felt like filler and was very boring.
My Official Match Ratings for the June 16th WWE NXT Episode:
The Opening Match: Tavion Heights vs. Jackson Drake (with Brad Baylor, Myka Lockwood & Ricky Smokes) in a WWE NXT North American Title No. 1 Contender’s Match | The Match Rating: ***.50 — I enjoyed this match between Jackson Drake and Tavion Heights. Ever since Tavion Heights returned, he has had a new edge to himself and isn't playing nice anymore, as previously nothing was working for him riding alone. Jackson Drake looked solid in this match. I have praised him as someone I see succeeding in NXT and possibly becoming the World Champion in NXT. But I also liked how Tavion Heights moved in this match; it does look like he improved. But in the end, we saw Tavion Heights get the win. Now at WWE NXT Great American Bash, he'll be going against his friend, the WWE NXT North American Champion, Myles Borne. I'm looking forward to this match.
The 2nd Match: Izzi Dame (with Niko Vance & Shawn Spears) vs. Thea Hail in a WWE Women’s Speed Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament First Round Match | The Match Rating: N/A — Izzi Dame took down Thea Hail in a Semi-Final Round Match of the WWE Women’s Speed Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament. Izzi Dame has been chasing the titles this year, which hey HBK is very invested in her, but she moves on to the next round of this tournament.
The 3rd Match: Nattie vs. Jaida Parker in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: **.25 — This match went on way too long; I thought it dragged. I do like the fact that Nattie is used on TV with her badass gimmick. But I do feel like this whole feud is pointless because I don't see it helping Jaida Parker. One thing we also saw is that Karmen Petrovic and Nikkita Lyons are now allied with Nattie going forward, which is good, as it helps those talents out a bunch. But Jaida Parker has been very directionless for the past couple of months, and, in my opinion, having her lose doesn't help her, as Nattie is obviously a future HOF and an established wrestler. But I guess we have to see where this goes in the end. Does it help Jaida Parker?
The 4th Match: Arianna Grace (with Channing Lorenzo, Charlie Dempsey, Lexis King & Uriah Connors) vs. Layla Diggs in a WWE Women’s Speed Title No. 1 Contender’s Tournament First Round Match | The Match Rating: N/A — Arianna Grace has been in NXT since 2022, and I haven’t seen much improvement. Layla Diggs looked solid in this match; she’s someone to keep an eye out for, as she’s someone whom I think will climb through the ranks this year. But Arianna Grace advances to the next round as she’ll face Izzi Dame, and the winner of that will face Wren Sinclair for the WWE Women’s Speed Title.
The Main Event Match: Kendal Grey & Lola Vice vs. Kelani Jordan & Zaria in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: *** — Decent Main Event Match. I really did like some parts of this match. We saw Tatum Paxley appear, which spooked Zaria as it looked like she saw a ghost, but in the end, Lola Vice & Kendal Grey got the win in the Main Event. What I expected to happen did happen because it isn't a feud if the challenger doesn't accidentally strike the champion, which happened at the end of the show, where Kelani Jordan allowed Kendal Grey to strike Lola Vice with her WWE Women's NXT Title.
My Official Match of the Night for the June 16th Episode of WWE NXT: Tavion Heights vs. Jackson Drake (with Brad Baylor, Myka Lockwood & Ricky Smokes) in a WWE NXT North American Title No. 1 Contender’s Match | The Match Rating: ***.50 — I enjoyed this match between Jackson Drake and Tavion Heights. Since returning, Tavion Heights has shown a new edge and dropped the nice-guy approach after his solo run wasn’t working. Jackson Drake looked strong again; I still see him as a future NXT standout and potential NXT World Champion. Tavion also seemed more polished here, and his improvement showed. In the end, Tavion got the win and now moves on to WWE NXT Great American Bash to face his friend, NXT North American Champion Myles Borne, a match I’m really looking forward to.
My June 16th Official Episode Grade for WWE NXT: 3.75/10 (D) — Weak episode of NXT with very little that stood out. Tavion Heights earning a North American Title shot at Great American Bash was a smart call, especially given his history with Myles Borne, and the Main Event Tag was solid. Beyond that, the show felt like filler. Jaida Parker vs. Nattie dragged badly and felt endless, even if it was nice to see Karmen Petrovic back alongside Nattie. The Speed Tournament matches were generic and hard to care about. Despite NXT PLEs being strong this year and Great American Bash looking promising, this particular episode was dull and forgettable.
