My Official Thoughts on the June 2nd Episode of WWE NXT:
My Official Thoughts: A mediocre episode of NXT, only highlights for me are the Lizzy Rain & Zaria stuff, Saquon Shugars hunting down DarkState, and the Main Event Match. Next week, I do expect a much better episode of NXT with the matches that are slated for that episode.
My Official Match Ratings for the June 2nd WWE NXT Episode:
The Opening Match: Zaria vs. Lizzy Rain in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: *** — This match, I want again, because I know there is a better match down the line, but this wasn't horrible, very solid 2nd Best Match from this episode. Zaria as a heel just feels natural and better than her being Sol Ruca’s sidekick. Her getting the win was the smart choice. I do see Zaria as the next WWE NXT Women's North American Champion, as I do see her taking down Tatum Paxley.
The 2nd Match: OTM (Bronco Nima & Lucien Price) vs. The Culling (Niko Vance & Shawn Spears) (with Izzi Dame) in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: *.75 — OTM is a team I thought would be NXT Tag Champs by now, but it seems like they are stagnant. and in the same place they were for the past two years. For The Culling in this match, I got a sense that Izzi Dame & Niko Vance will break away from Shawn Spears eventually after the loss, as The Culling are on a very horrid streak at the moment in NXT. But as I said, OTM needs better booking; they are over, but it looks like HBK doesn’t know how to really book them in a better way.
The 3rd Match: Jackson Drake (with Brad Baylor, Myka Lockwood & Ricky Smokes) vs. Tate Wilder in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ** — I think it’s quite funny that Tate Wilder isn't listening to any advice and he's losing every single week. I think he's on a three-or four-match losing streak. I'm not going to lie, it's quite funny because he genuinely tries to go 100 MPH but loses in the end. But Jackson Drake got the win; he's a future NXT World Champion. He’s been one of the best new stars on NXT; big things for him eventually.
The 4th Match: Lexis King (with Arianna Grace, Channing Lorenzo & Uriah Connors) (c) vs. Romeo Moreno (with Noam Dar) in a WWE Speed Title Match | The Match Rating: N/A — This match was okay. I wanted Romeo Moreno to get the win to win the title. I wish they could convert this to an NXT TV Title; that would be much better, but Lexi King got the win and retained his WWE Speed Title.
The 5th Match: DarkState (Dion Lennox & Osiris Griffin) vs. Myles Borne & Tavion Heights in a Tag Team Match | The Match Rating: **.25 — This was okay. I'm happy Saquon Shugars is back as his original self from DPW as Lucky Ali. Hom huintiong down the DarkState members is fun because he took out Cutler James with a bat earlier in the night, so this match was put off for later. But are we seeing the continued descent of Myles Borne & Tavion Heights as friends? I think something is going to happen eventually, a heel turn brewing between one of them. But DarkState got the win in a very simple Tag Team Match.
The Main Event Match: Tony D’Angelo (c) vs. Kam Hendrix in a WWE NXT Title Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — Best Match of Kam Hendrix’s career, which is pretty funny because he’s pretty decent in the ring; it's just that corny gimmick he has feels forced and unnatural. But I do believe he has some talent. Tony D'Angelo took down Kam Hendrix as he retained his WWE NXT Title. EVIL was watching a long time, making sure nothing went south, but next week we have EVIL vs. Mason Rook in a No. 1 Contender's Match. This was fun. Tony D'Angelo is really excited for his future, especially once he reaches the Main Roster.
My Official Match of the Night for the June 2nd Episode of WWE NXT: Tony D’Angelo (c) vs. Kam Hendrix in a WWE NXT Title Match | The Match Rating: ***.25 — This was the best match of Kam Hendrix’s career, which is amusing because he’s actually pretty solid in the ring; it’s just that his cheesy gimmick comes off forced and unnatural. Still, I think he has real potential. Tony D’Angelo defeated Kam Hendrix to retain his WWE NXT Title. EVIL watched closely the whole time to make sure nothing went wrong, and now next week we’re getting EVIL vs. Mason Rook in a No. 1 Contender’s Match. This was a fun bout, and Tony D’Angelo clearly has a bright future ahead of him, especially once he makes it to the main roster.
My June 2nd Official Episode Grade for WWE NXT: 5.50/10 (C) — This was a pretty mediocre episode of NXT. The only real highlights for me were the Lizzy Rain and Zaria segments, Saquon Shugars tracking down DarkState, and the main event. I’m expecting a much stronger episode next week based on the matches that are already scheduled.
