My Thoughts on WWE NXT Vengeance Day:
My Thoughts: This was an okay event. Usually, NXT Events have 6-7 Matches. I'm kinda happy this wasn't in an area because the matches on paper aren't worthy of an arena PLE. But there were three matches I was satify from watching, but the last two matches of the show are where it dipped because it would've been a near 8 if those two matches were good, but they were mediocre, and boring. Now we are locked into gear as Stand & Deliver is on our horizon, so let's hope for some good matches for that event.
WWE NXT Vengeance Day — The Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: Blake Monroe vs. Jaida Parker in a Street Fight | The Match Rating: ***.25 — A really fun opener, the new Jaida Parker theme song is pretty neat, fits with the chants the fans are screaming out. Blake Monroe needed this win more than anything because I expect her to soon be on the Main Roster, because I don't think there's much for her to do on NXT after this, unless she's aiming at the WWE NXT Women's Title. But Jaida Parker and Blake Monroe had some sick moments in this match, and this was fun. Good performance by both women in this match.
The 2nd Match: Tony D’Angelo vs. Dion Lennox in a Singles Match | The Match Rating: ***.50 — I have to credit where credit is due. Dion Lennox, this was his best singles match of his career. The way this match started was neat; it started in the parking lot with a brawl. Which led into the ring, but the way they did it was nice. I looked the moment they broke through the wall. But Tony D'Angelo, with his Juice Robinson look, was a killer in this match; he was doing his thing, same with Dion Lennox. But I really enjoyed this. Dion Lennox gained a fan in me. I didn't realize he had improved and was capable of being in a solid spot. Tony D'Angelo, finally, I hope is done with DarkState and can pursue the WWE NXT Title to be a Grand Slam Champion in NXT.
The 3rd Match: Izzi Dame (with Niko Vance & Shawn Spears) (c) vs. Tatum Paxley in a WWE NXT Women’s North American Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — Tatum Paxley looked great in this match with her great tempo and athleticism on display. Izzi Dame had her best match in her career as she sold well and really told a story in the ring with Tatum Paxley. This was the Match of the Night for me from this event; it was filled with a lot of drama. Moments where we thought Tatum Paxley was going to fall short, but this was a lot of fun. Many moments where I was impressed with Izzi Dame. But I do hope this is the end of the story told between Izzi Dame and Tatum Paxley. What a stretch for Tatum Paxley, she became the WWE NXT Women's Champion, and now WWE NXT Women's North American Champion. She has had a great run in NXT in the past year. She deserves this as she is a highly underrated act. I'm hoping this time she has a lengthy run with this title. Izzi Dame, you made your mark. Kudos to you.
The 4th Match: Lola Vice vs. Kelani Jordan in an NXT Underground Match | The Match Rating: **.25 — This is one of the weaker NXT Underground Matches. Now I do feel like, for the magnitude of this feud, this match stipulation was needed. But this was poorly done. Lola Vice, I did expect to gain the win as she did suffer the loss in the previous matchup, and the NXT Underground Match is her signature stipulation. But Kelani Jordan was okay. She is someone I'm extremely high on, but she didn't look solid in this match, and the same with Lola Vice; she had some miscues. But in the end, she did have a sick TKO Finish and I believe this ends the feud, as I hope both women have something major for WWE Stand & Deliver.
The Main Event Match: Joe Hendry (c) vs. Ricky Saints in a WWE NXT Title Match | The Match Rating: **.75 — Didn't go into this match thinking it would blow me away, but this was a very boring main event. I didn't enjoy it because it was very predictable with Joe Hendry getting the win. Ricky Saints didn't look like himself in this match, and Ethan Page being inserted being a clumsy spot was annoying. I didn't think for one second Joe Hendry was going to lose. Now Ricky Saints lost, is he Main Roster bound? He's done everything you can do in NXT. I felt like he reached his ceiling, same with Joe Hendry, once he drops the NXT Title. Like it's going to be obvious he's heading to the Main Roster. But yeah, as I said, this was a let-down and boring.
WWE NXT Vengeance Day — The Match of the Night: Izzi Dame (with Niko Vance & Shawn Spears) (c) vs. Tatum Paxley in a WWE NXT Women’s North American Title Match | The Match Rating: ****.25 — This was a very fun match, easily the best match from the show. I’m very glad Tatum Paxley won; she deserved this after how short her WWE NXT Women's Title was. I really hope they give her the chance to have a long, lengthy run and end this Culling feud after this match.
WWE NXT Vengeance Day — The Event Grade: 6.50/10 (C+) — This could've been a NXT Episode. It didn't feel like a PLE Event whatsoever, and that's quite obvious. But I do hope they go back to the 6-7 Match formula for Stand & Deliver, and have some great matches on the show. Allow the new crop of NXT Talent that were called up from EVOLVE to shine on the biggest PLE for NXT.
