My Thoughts on the July 1st Episode of WWE Tuesday Night NXT:

My Thoughts: This was not a good episode of NXT; it felt like a taped episoden't worth watching. I decided to give it a shot because the card looked decent, but only one match that was was passable—the main event where Yoshiki Inamura secured a title shot at The Great American Bash, facing Oba Femi for the title. My main concern is why it's so difficult to book solid matches. I don't care for the D'Angelo Family drama, and some matches on the show appeared sloppy and lacked energy. Overall, this episode was lackluster, with the only highlight being Yoshiki Inamura and Blake Monroe making the save. Aside from that, it was not a very eventful show and didn't resonate with me.

The July 1st | Episode of WWE Tuesday Night NXT — Match Ratings:

The Opening Match: Joe Hendry vs. Wes Lee (with Tyriek Igwe & Tyson Dupont) in a Singles Match | Match Rating: **.50 | Just turn Wes Lee back to a baby face, a very much non-suspenseful match; there was no fuel or fire, it felt boring. Joe Hendry was going to win that was easy to see and man Wes Lee has been a shell of himself since the heel turn they need to revert him because he is more suitable as a underdog babyface the fans love than a heel because it just doesn't feel believable and it hasn;t been good the heel turn was good after theat he been on a horrendous run since then.

2nd Match: Myles Borne vs. Lexis King in a Singles Match | Match Rating: N/A | This match was just another match for Myles Borne to continue to build his wins and continue his push. Ever since he has broken away from No Quarter Catch Crew, he has been swimming with the sharks. He has done a great job, and I’m hoping he gets another title shot down the line. For Lexis King he looks in great shape. He lost a lot of weight and got leaner and put music on good for him, but he couldn’t come away with the win.

3rd Match: Lainey Reid vs. Thea Hail in a Singles Match | Match Rating: N/A | Lainey Reid is going to be a star. I remember her match with Kendel Grey last year, and she shone. I have high hopes for her, but this was a quick match. Wish it was long because Thea Hail can go in the ring, but I’m happy Lainey Reid is getting a push, hopefully she can be inserted in the mid-card scene for NXT Women’s Division.

4th Match: Izzi Dame & Tatum Paxley vs. Sol Ruca & Zaria in a Tag Team Match | Match Rating: **.75 | An okay tag team match. Izzi Dame is getting a push as now she'll be facing Sol Ruca for the WWE NXT Women's North American Championship at American Bash. Her partnership with Tatum Paxley isn't remotely interesting. More teases of tension with Sol Ruca and Zaria, which I can't wait for when they feud in the future, that match will be terrific, but other than that, just a very average tag team match.

The Main Event Match: Yoshiki Inamura (with Josh Briggs) vs. Jasper Troy in a WWE NXT Championship Number One Contendership Match | Match Rating: ***.25 | The best match from the show tonight, and much much-deserved win, and I'm glad Yoshiki Inamura is getting a push because he's awesome to watch in the ring. Jasper Troy has been catching my attention. He has been booked well, and his presentation is not that bad, thus far. I'm excited to see this Oba Femi and Yohsuki Inamura match because it has a WWE Match of the Year caliber if given the time and allowed to hit all gears in the match.

The July 1st | WWE Tuesday Night NXT | Match of the Night: Yoshiki Inamura (with Josh Briggs) vs. Jasper Troy in a WWE NXT Championship Number One Contendership Match | Match Rating: ***.25

The July 1st | Edition of WWE Tuesday Night NXT | Episode Grade: 2.75/10 (D-) | This was easily the worst episode of this year for me. NXT usually has a serviable episode, but tonight it just didn’t do anything as I felt bored watching for the majority of the show. Next week’s match card looks much better with a title match and solid singles matches. But I hope this boring slate of an episode doesn’t happen again because this episode did nothing for me.

Next Week WWE Tuesday Night NXT | July 8th Episode | The Announced Matches & Segments:

  2. Joe Hendry & Mike Santana vs. High Ryze (Tyriek Igwe & Tyson Duponet) in a Tag Team Match.

  3. Charlie Dempsey vs. Tavion Heights in a Singles Match.

  4. Ricky Saints vs. Vanity Project (Brad Baylor, Jackson Drake & Ricky Smokes) in a Three-on-One Handicap Gauntlet Match.
