My Thoughts on the July 22nd Episode of WWE Tuesday Night NXT:
My Thoughts: This was a TV special in Houston, Texas, as NXT was on the road for this episode. The opening match featured The Culling winning an eight-person tag team match, after which DarkState took out Hank and Tank. They will be eyeing the WWE NXT Tag Titles. Jasper Troy faced Ricky Saints in a solid match, showcasing Troy as a dominant force by defeating Saints and executing a big splash outside the ring that led to a countout victory. It feels like Ricky Saints' time in NXT is coming to an end, as he has done everything he can and is ready to move up to the main roster. Trick Williams had an interesting segment when confronted by WWE Hall of Famer The Undertaker. While the segment was solid, I didn't appreciate that Trick Williams got chokeslammed; it would have been better if he had shown disrespect to The Undertaker and brought the upper hand. Still, Trick did come out of it with some positive exposure. Blake Monroe had a quick win in her NXT singles debut match against Wren Sinclair. Jordynne Grace attempted to attack afterward but was laid out with a DDT onto a chair, with Blake Monroe menacingly taking her down. Jacy Jayne had a noteworthy segment as well; I'm glad her reign is not just transitional but solid, and I'm happy for her since it seems WWE is positioning her well for a role on the main roster. Ethan Page revealed his Canadian version of the WWE NXT North American Title. Still, his segment was interrupted by Santino Marella, leading to a match set for next week's episode of NXT. The main event was much fun, with Oba Femi retaining his title and continuing his dominance. Overall, NXT has had an up-and-down year for weekly television. They need to develop more male talent, as the depth in that division is lacking. NXT should focus more on nurturing young talent rather than featuring older TNA wrestlers.
The July 22nd | Episode of WWE Tuesday Night NXT — Match Ratings:
The Opening Match: The Culling (Izzi Dame, Niko Vance, Shawn Spears & Tatum Paxley vs. Hank And Tank (Hank Walker & Tank Ledger) & ZaRuca (Sol Ruca & Zaria) in a Mixed Eight-Person Tag Team Match | Match Rating: *.50 | I'm not a huge fan of The Culling; I think they're one of the worst things currently on NXT. While I do like both Hank and Tank as well as ZaRuca teaming together, their loss to The Culling felt pointless. Afterwards, we saw DarkState come out, but the match was boring, lacking any excitement, and ultimately pointless. They should have included a match featuring Je'Von Evans, Tavion Heights, Myles Borne, or even Jacy Jayne instead. This segment was disappointing.
2nd Match: Jasper Troy vs. Ricky Saints in a Singles Match | Match Rating: ***.25 | It seems like it's Ricky Saints' final match in NXT. Jasper Troy gets his first major win over a big name in Ricky Saints. Jasper Troy had a solid showing, but his in-ring work still needs a lot of improvement. However, his presence and character are developing, and his push has been strong.
3rd Match: Blake Monroe vs. Wren Sinclair in a Singles Match | Match Rating: N/A | This was Blake Monroe’s official Singles Debut Match. She made quick work out of the No Quarter Catch Crew Member in Wren Sinclair. Afterwards, from the crowd, Jordynen Grace appeared irate after what transpired at Evoultion with Blake Monroe attacking her and costing her the title win. But Blake Monroe stands tall, taking down Jordynne Grace with a DDT onto a chair. Great way to make her a threat and a great way to make her a menacing heel.
The Main Event Match: Oba Femi (c) vs. Josh Briggs vs. Yoshiki Inamura in a Triple Threat Title Match for the WWE NXT Championship | Match Rating: **** | This was an excellent match and truly an exceptional main event. Recently, outside of Ethan Page, Je'Von Evans, Oba Femi, Ricky Saints, Trick Williams, and Yoshiki Inamura, the NXT Men's Division has been quite talent-depleted. However, this match stood out, and I enjoy watching Yoshiki Inamura in the ring; he brings a lot of intensity. Josh Briggs performed well too; interestingly, his best career performance was alongside Oba Femi in a Triple Threat Title Match in 2024, where Oba Femi managed to take down both Josh Briggs and Yoshiki Inamura, ultimately retaining his WWE NXT Title. We now have an idea of who might be next for him, as the scene cuts to the backstage area where The Undertaker speaks with Je'Von Evans. It seems that Je'Von Evans will be targeting Oba Femi and the WWE NXT Title next. Overall, it was a very entertaining main event for this special episode of NXT in Houston, Texas.

The July 22nd | Edition of WWE Tuesday Night NXT — Episode Grade: 5.25/10 (C) — This was a TV special in Houston, Texas, featuring NXT on the road. The opening match saw The Culling win an eight-person tag match, with DarkState targeting Hank and Tank for the WWE NXT Tag Titles. Jasper Troy defeated Ricky Saints in a dominant performance, hinting that Saints may be moving to the main roster. Trick Williams had a notable segment with The Undertaker, but I didn't like that he got chokeslammed—he could have benefited from showing more disrespect. Blake Monroe made a strong impression in her singles debut against Wren Sinclair, while Jordynne Grace was taken down by Monroe after an attempted attack. Jacy Jayne's reign appears solid, suggesting WWE has plans for her on the main roster. Ethan Page introduced his Canadian version of the NXT North American Title, but it was interrupted by Santino Marella, setting up a match for next week. The main event featured Oba Femi retaining his title, but overall, NXT needs to focus on developing male talent rather than relying on older wrestlers.
